When going from 18 inch wheels to 19 inch wheels, is an alignment required? I didn't even think about it, but since sqitching from my 18 inch pilots to the 19 inch pilots, I notice that the car seems not as responsive as it did when it was on 18's. What I mean by this is when I am driving at 50 MPH and quickly shake the steering wheel from side to side, the car seems more sloppy now than it did before where it snapped from side to side quicker.

Thoughts?

Only thing that changed was your tire/wheel size. So in short, no, not needed.

You may want to change it to different specs to take change the way the car "feels" with that setup. But just changing the tire/wheel size has no effect on the alignment. It will still be at the same specs as with the other setup.

Bigger tires and wheels won't affect your alignment. If you lower or raise the car it will.

Unless you have a different offset in the wheels. That will change the settings.

It changes the lever arm. It changes the settings not unlike additional weight to the car.

The track may change on the car, but the heads will still give the same readings. So no alignment is needed if it was in spec before the change of rolling stock.

OK, so if you were going to do a HIGH SPEED RUN and switched from 18 inch wheels to 19 inch wheels, what would you do as a precaution? HIGH SPEED = standing mile type of a run.

You should take the same precautions as you normally would for the wheels and tires before any event. Inspect for cracks, torque to spec and make sure the tires are aired correctly for that kind of event.

Manny ,
WCV has an agressive street/track alignment that works great !

You might want to talk to John or Jason about it...They did my RT and it handles like a champ !
I can fax you the alignment SPEC.

Cheers

Thanks Jeff. I have that alignment on my red RT/10 and don't want it for the GTS since you lose some straight ahead traction due to the wheels being cocked slightly (less contact patch accelerating, more contact patch into turns.) I don't plan on running this thing on road courses and it handles pretty good around tires.

My question was more for high speed runs, and whether doing 190 MPH in my car is OK without any other changes other than swapping out 18 inch wheels to 19 inch wheels.

Manny, I would get the car realigned with the new wheel and tire combo.
