What are the differences between ACR and GTS?

I am aware of the racing harnesses and wheels. What are the exact differences in engine and suspension? Are there any others I'm leaving out?

Is there a better year ACR to go after?

None of this sounds like things you cant accomplish better through aftermarket parts. Am I right? Why would anyone go after an ACR?

Is there really any point to getting an ACR? They seem to hold their value better and be worth a little more but they also seem to be tougher to sell because of the racing harnesses ....and if it didnt have AC it might be impossible to sell as it only appeals to racing folks.

Why is 2002 the best year? Just because its the final edition?

racing harness has no bearing on resale value. you still have factory seat belts, racing harness can be removed. ACR can be compared to TA model. Race ready and dialed in from the factory. They seem to have a better resale value, again condition pending. the production run of ACRs was low enough. In 2002 Final edition cars had ACR models along with GTS. As far as the a/c goes $10000 option from the factory had your a/c back in the car, along with other things, such as radio, etc. i personally have not seen an ACR with out a/c. that would be ugly considering the heat these cars generate. hope this helps

ACRs also had different oil filter adapters than the base model. Finding an ACR with no A/C would be worth more if you're a collector considering most got it added back in.

If one is going to mod their Viper, then the ACR is not the car to buy. I think that it still has a collectibility niche just because it is a special edition and it underlined the fact that the Viper was/is a race car for the street. Many people buy Vipers because they are rare, and ACRs because they are rarer. When I bought mine in 2006; aftermarket wheels were not common, and I really liked the BBS wheels on the ACR versus the chunky "stock version" wheels.

Any of the upgrades on the ACR can be accomplished nowadays easily in the aftermarket.

1999 ACR, last year with the forged Motor, and hairy cam, and real tube headers, they also dyno the highest of all the gen 2s stock. But they are all good, pulling hairs.

I think it kind of depends what you are after. If you are just looking for a track car then it makes no sense to get an ACR. Just build what you want from a cheaper model and upgrade or better still just buy one already built close to your liking for a great discount off building it yourself.

If you are looking for collectability then its a different story. At the current market I would think any ACR should hold its value well. The no A/C ACR's are cool and rare as hens teeth. True ********* and as Dodge intended them to be built. All are awesome.

I think the ones WITH AC are cooler than without :D
Especially around the feet area, it gets pretty hot in there

I own both a 2000 ACR and a 2000 RT10 that I drive for fun; no tracking. The ACR suspension is much stiffer and tighter than the RT10. For nice sunny day drives with my wife, (few and far between lately) there’s no question; I drive the RT10. For a fun spirited drive by myself – the ACR. In comparison, the ACR makes my RT10 feel like a Mercedes.

The ACR also came with an adapter on the oil filter to help keep oil cooler it also raised the oil pressure.

Are you sure that number is correct? I thought it was in the 30's??

I'm surprised also. I thought the number that I read was much lower than that. But, then again, my memory is crappy; and who knows about the person that posted it.

I did my search all ACR's (all MY's).

I thought the number would be higher. Didn't really have the time to break it down by year, I was in the middle of something else at the moment. If there's interest, I can break it down by year later this evening

Is the data on the IVR link incorrect? From that information it lists 9/17/4/8 respectively which would be a total of 38.

Jay was unable to finish his work so there are some updates that need to take place. We (Some Staff Members and I) have discussed bringing the IVR current, however, there have been some far more important things to finish before we address how we should update the IVR. I have the data to bring it current through 2014 to include the data I've collected to date for the 2015's. I wish I had better answers.

I'll do a breakout tonight. I know when I talked to Jay, the methods in which we got our data where different. If I remember right, most of his concrete numbers were US market, when it got to the export market data was a little less clear (I could be wrong).

ok cool. I know I was tracking the movement of ACR's for a while and while I only ever saw some 300+ cars transact (post MSO) when I lost track - I know I only ever saw one or two Non AGF cars trade. Maybe 20 made it out of the country without comfort, who knows.

What kind of ACR breakdown would you like to see? I won't say I can do anything, however, I have lots of options

I guess the total production per year and how many non AGF cars. The color breakdown I am guessing would be more work. I think most people have been operating with the understanding that the total production of ACR's was the 819 cars listed on IVR. Would be cool to have the real production numbers if those are off. If a breakdown of domestic (count) was easy that would be interesting as well.

Help me out here "AGF" is a new acronym for me.

So this is what I'll work on..

Production per year
Color (and stripe)
USA, Canada, Mexico or Export

I know when I did my quick search there was over 950 (can't remember the total).

I'd like to see how many Red 2000 model ACRs were made with silver stripes if you have that kind of info.

The hardest part about some of the documentation with the ACR's is there not listed as ACR's on some of the build sheets, there listed as "Competition Group". Sooooo.......

For 2000 I have 25 Vipers that are Viper Red Clear Coat with Viper Bright Silver Metallic C/C Dual Painted Stripes that are in the Competition Group. 5 of those are Test / Marketing / Public Relations Vehicles. 3 of the 25 are Canadian Retail.

As I look through the data, I see that I have plenty of work to do to completely define the ACR breakout. I thought I had more done than I really do. A lot a racing over the next 3 days... I'll see what I can get done in finishing up the ACR break down. I hate rushing through it, that's where I make mistakes. I just have to make sure that Vipers that have been listed as part of the "Competition Group" are or are not ACR's.

All ACR's have "real tube headers", as well as every Viper built after they ditched the cast iron units.

From 99 to 2002 ACRs 99 had the headers, in 2000 they lost the cam and lifters also. I am pretty sure, may be Viper Jeff can find out. I am taking gen 2.

That's one of the things I haven't researched is the variations of the motor based on year
