The two most frequently stated reasons for not buying a Gen V have now been cured. The car is now moddable and the price was lowered 15K.

The Gen V Viper is clearly the best and most well designed manual transmission OEM, hand made, performance coupe available not only in its price range but in any price range. And, on top of that we now have the 1 of 1 program.

So I hope that all of you who posted previously have now stepped up to the plate and purchased/ordered a Gen V. Once you acquire one and drive her, you will wonder why you waited so long. The Gen V is a whole different level of Viper.

Best,

bob

I was one of the ones who was definitely not thrilled with what SRT came out with and went and bought a ZR1. Now three years later with the evolution of the car and recently available modifications along with Dodge making it more reasonably priced. I have a TA 2.0 on order. Im not eating crow, I just feel things are finally getting where they should have been 3 years ago.

Perfect post Bob, just need to get my wife to jettison the Ftype and then I have room in the garage for 1 more!

Bang for buck, nothing comes close, maybe a hellcat, but that's not my style...

Too many owners with major problems and even warranty engine swaps (some I even personally know) but the 16 ACR is finally worth buying for me as a true heavy weight track car (GTD clone) even if it still has its issues, but hopefully debugged before I order one............

Mine has had no problems and many, and I assume most, have been problem free. The few rpoblems there have been have been greatly exaggerated and distorted since a number of them were due to inproperly maintained oil levels either due to owner ignorance or dealer ignorance about something as simple as how to properly use the dip stick. The Viper is a high performance vehicle that requires some thought to properly maintain and use it.

The Internet is infamous for the type of distortion that has been generated based on emphacizing a few cars as opposed to the overwhelming majority of satisfied owners. Some of that distortion is fostered by competeing brands and that is also part of the Internet.

The 2016 ACR has not been confirmed by Dodge. It is a rumor posted on Allpar by O20. Without a wing that can adapt on the fly (you confirmed that it will have a fixed wing), I doubt that it will be significantly faster than the TA 2.0. on many road courses and possibly even slower on some. It should do best on a track like the Ring. It will be far less streetable based on the rumored data about it. It will also be much slower in a standing mile race; a high speed roll on race; and depending on how much down force is generated, possibly both the quarter and half mile. (stock ACRs were dogs in the standing mile.)

So for the select few "A" level road course drvers who have access to the type of road course where the ACR will be superior to a TA 2.0, the ACR will make sense. For the rest, it will have a bit of a poser appeal.

Don't get me wrong, I am excited about a new ACR variant. But it does not suit my needs. I think the TAs are the perfect combination of features for someone like me. And I hope you enjoy the heck out of yours when you eventually get it - if it is ever made. As I get older, deferring things perhaps more than a year, makes less and less sense. I have seen too many friends hit by unexpected health problems who each say: "I waited too long and now it is too late."

Stupid good deals with vids of gen5's killing other cars and the modability, I picked my new gen5 up a couple weeks ago, just in time for the snowstorms in the east, ugh. But lovin it.

Let's not forget the 900 and 1000hp options coming out from tuners. You can get one of the fastest cars on the planet for under $150k, I just saw one today, OMG, bolt on 1000hp, yes please!

Nice work Dman, these mods coming out are simply unbelieveable, and Gen 5s STOCK killing all these cars, man oh man its cool when they get modded, spit fire, and wax a Aventador...

The price does help but until it steps up into the 21st century with an auto/DSG gearbox option, it will not be in my garage.
Maybe it's not meant to be and I am not faulting Dodge on the matter. Great car at a bargain price for the performance.
A reasonable matte paint option will also need to be offered. If MB can offer it for $3K, I think Dodge can as well.

Hi Frank. You are one of the "A" level drivers I had in mind when I typed that.

Best,

I am still on the fence.

Pros: I really love the styling of the new Gen 5. I like the way the best styling cues of the previous generations have been brought together. Very clever. I love the hp/tq numbers, factory warranty, reliability etc., hand built, exclusivity, curves. The paint job is beautiful.

Cons: I wish they offered Crusher Orange (I really don't like Y'Orange), I wish they offered Stryker Green. Or a yellow. In other words, I am pretty disappointed in the 7 or so colors offered for the base model. Adrenaline red is nice, but I already own a red S2000. Competition Blue is nice, but I already own an STi in world rally blue. I love the Sepia interior, but I'm not interested in paying 20K more for the GTS model. 85K is enough.

I really don't like the fact that when I went into the dealership they wanted $2000 for a delivery charge, and $2000 for an environmental levy (Canadian for gas guzzler tax), which then
brings the price of the base model up to $89,995.00. Then, add 5% GST (Federal Goods and Services Tax) 5% PST (Provincial Sales Tax), and you now have 100K for the base model.......
hmmmmmmmm. My feeling is, for that kind of money, I should be able to get the car in the color I want and with the beautiful sepia interior.

I am still considering a Ferrari 360 which I can purchase for 85K from a private seller so I won't pay GST, or delivery, or gas guzzler tax, and I can get it in yellow. But, I know I am going to get killed with the maintenance and the break downs. The first time a warning light flashes, or the F1 transmission won't go into gear, I'll crap my pants and know that I'm in for a 5-10K
repair bill. Let alone the chance that the whole thing will catch on fire: F bomb. Oh yeah, and the Viper will absolutely kill the F car.

I don't know. I have been wrestling with this problem for about 8 months now, and don't even get me started on the possibility of a G car, which would be infinitely more reliable than an F
car, and more powerful with all wheel drive, but it still won't have a warranty, and the Viper will still kill it. Arrrrgggg.......

Maybe an OEM supercharger and more colors will tip the scales for me next year............:(

Yeah, I've considered that, but my understanding is that the GTC bumps you up to $94,995, and it gets harder to justify the purchase as you crest 100K with taxes. I am going to check out the PDF file in the other thread that outlines the options. It is a pretty cool program. It's just money right? :)

It may be just money, however, if your not in the Ride that makes you happy..... it becomes an issue pretty quick

Good point. Particularly when I don't sell the cars I purchase. I buy them and keep them. Resale is no longer in my vocabulary. It's too much hassle. I believe in picking the car you want, paying it off, and then buying another. So this next purchase is going to be a big deal. I have to get it right, which is why I've spent the last 8 months or so researching the cars that interest me. The Gen V Viper is definitely on my radar.

Well, I guess the good news is you don't have to buy right away, so waiting isn't an issue

There are at least six documented cases I know of that have had motors grenading on 2014 Viper TA's, and that is out of what 158 cars?
Two I know personally had nothing whatsoever to do with oil starvation. That is an alarming high percentage of that one variant.
I still bought one, but I wouldn't dream of modding it till it has at least 6-7K on it to feel confident I'm not one of the unlucky ones.

When did you sell your ride ?

As has been posted by Nsane, I was granted a Membership because I'm helping with the Great Work that Jay started with documenting Vipers. I'm not to bad at collecting the data and compiling what I find. Kind of OK with html, just no experience with php. Hopefully as time rolls on, I can help provide production information just like Jay did for 16 years.
