Parking at the gym on Tuesday and I see a nice spot up front next to handicap spot. Now I usually try to park far away where there are less cars around.
So I open the door and am grabbing my gym bag when I see a SUV come flying in to the handicapped spot next to me and hits my door. I looked over
at her car and started screaming *** as the whole side of her car was scraped and dented. I got out of my car expecting my door to be crushed.

Much to my surprise my car sustained very little damage. Just a small scratch where the paint was removed on the edge of the door. After speaking to the woman
that hit my car and getting her insurance info, I felt so relieved that my car had such little damage and told her I probably could fix the scratch myself.

So I am trying with a little touch up paint and will see how it comes out.

Maybe it's the picture or angle, but the body line doesn't look right. Looks tighter on the bottom at has a bigger gap up top.

Son had his neon drivers door pancaked to the front fender by a lady in a mini van at the local Walmart pulling into a parking spot. Moved his car up onto the curb also. She would not get out of vehicle or roll down the window. Son called the police, they came out, surveyed the situation. Said parking lot is private not public and out of there jurisdiction, then said my son was in the wrong for opening his door without out looking for a vehicle. Police wouldn't get her insurance info and eventually told my son to leave the parking lot or they will tow his car away. Lady must have told the cop she thought he was going to beat the **** out of her.

That's crap. I woulda told those idiots that they couldn't tow me because "I'm not in your bloody jurisdiction, so go get a donut already".

That's an awful story, I feel sorry for your son :(

As to the Original post, Very sorry to hear your car has been damaged. So the SUV that pulled into the Disabled spot, was the driver disabled? many people park in them because they are the nearest spots to the door!

Any one tell me what a GYM is? :eater:

What about the spot on the rear quarter on the wheel well edge.

Get an estimate and make her pay the full amount and fix it yourself. Gotta teach these morons a lesson.

Its prob a worse scratch than you think. With paint i would never try to fix myself it will look like crap. Her fault, let her insurance pay to fix it correctly. Thats why insurance companies **** us with rates.

Touch up paint will look like crap. It won't have the clear coat layer. You really need to get it done properly.

The driver had a soft cast on her leg. Also she told me she had just come from a cardioloigst becaus she fainted somewhere so I felt bad.
Anyhow I am going to take everyones advice and take it to a shop. I tried touching it up and just wasn't thrilled with the results.
Thanks!

There is only one place you should be taking your car-to her insurance company. On the bright side, at least you were there when this happened, chances are very good she would be not feeling well enough to leave you a note that this happened in the first place. Now, get your running shoes and run to the gym next time instead of driving your Viper there, should be better for you and the car.

I think many of you might have thought that a reflection is actualy the scratch I am referring to. My son pointed that out to me when he was looking at the photo I sent him on his cell phone.
That is probably why some of you though i was crazy for trying to fix it myself.

Man, please take the car to a reputable repair shop first before you even think about trying to fix it yourself. This is what liability insurance is for. Don't ever tell the responsible party/person it's no big deal until you know for sure. In the end, you'll end up paying for your own kindness........
