I first got started with cars by doing car audio, and the main goal of this build was a simple upgrade just so I had something a little better than stock. While the radio and speaker upgrade was supposed to be enough, I wasn't fully happy with how clean the factory amp was pushing power at higher volumes and the lack of power I was feeling from the rear mini-subs. Step in the Alpine KTP-445, which was designed by Alpine as a plug-n-play unit to upgrade the "20x4 RMS" internal amps of their receivers to a 45x4 RMS setup without the additional wiring needed from traditional amp setup. Most non-subwoofer amp setups are in the 50x4 range (unless you go 75 or 100x4, which is way too much power IMO for speakers), so to cram all of this power into a TINY amp is a great feat. They later came out with a universal version (445U) that can be used with any receiver (no Alpine connectors).
With this size package, my goal was to use all factory Viper wiring and put it in the factory location. I did not want to run any wires whatsoever. Turns out the internal cavity of the factory amp holds this new amp PERFECTLY. I desoldered the electrical connectors from the circuit board, had to redrill some holes in the end plates and also had to make a bracket, but overall everything fit perfectly. All put back together, this thing is slick.
How does it sound? AMAZING. Front gain is set to 1/4, while the rear gain is set to 3/8. This allows the rear Kicker mini-subs (view my previous post) to really pound much harder than before so it comes into the cabin. This is not a 12" sub setup so it doesn't go very very low, but overall it does pack enough punch to make it sound and feel good. At higher volumes, the front speakers don't distort anymore; this new mini-amp really packs just enough clean power to make your ears hurt. My Borla exhaust makes up the rest
Very happy with the final audio setup. Simple, inexpensive, and just enough for cruising in the Viper.
