I got one of those race jacks and I like it for the most part, but it is a bitchh to pump up at times. I have to put my weight on it to push the handle down. Any idea why? The $19.95 auto zone jacks seem to pump more easily than the aluminum race ones....but they sit too high on my car.

IIRC, these are the ones that are good for Viper use?

BTW, what's the relationship between jack lifting weight and vehicle weight - i.e., this is a 3000lb jack, the Viper is ~3400lbs, but obviously the jack is only lifting on one side of the car (thus not the entire vehicle weight)?

Finally, where are all the optimal jacking points and jack stand placement points?

I have one of these. For the price, you can't beat it. The only real problem is, you still have to drive up on something to jack the front -- the jack fits under the car just fine, but there isn't enough room to raise the arm enough to do the first few pumps.

I agree with Adam, it does seem to require slightly more effort than my crappy cheap old steel floor jack. Nothing too outrageous though.

I bought one last week. I suspect the effort in pumping relates to the fact that it is designed to raise completely in 6 pumps. Prolly hydraulic piston ratio. There are some tips to making it work better.....I'm sure Mr. Fess may chime in.

It works great & slips right under the side jacking points. If you want to get under the front cross member, as stated above, you need a 2x6 to pull on.

After being quoted a $130 oil change at the Dodge place, I bought one of these & the goodies. Spent about $70 extra bucks, got my oil change, and now have a jack I like. It will pay for itself on the next oil change as far as I'm concerned.

The model numbers differ for color codes. $150 model is silver. I splurged an extra $10 & got anodized blue.

These jacks are great for Vipers (low profile), they fit right under the jacking points with no boards needed. Front point is right behind the front wheel, you'll see a piece of metal bent like a paper clip, in the rear same piece of metal just in front of the rear wheel. You can lift both rear tires by coming in from the rear (something I know alot about  ) and placing it under one of the two frame rails. To lift both front wheels off you need to drive up on boards so the jack will clear and lift from the cross member.

The effort is all about leverage!

To raise a car in 3 pumps (race jack) is going to make each pump a lot harder than a jack that takes 10 pumps to raise (standard garae jack). The same amount of total work is the same.

A useful application of physics.

Keith -- these aren't 3-pump jacks (although mine was advertised in the paper that way -- the box says six or 10 or something like that).

Kurtz -- the one I bought is similar -- the front has a wide solid roller, it's all silver, and I think mine either extends farther or is lower in the back -- kind of hard to tell from the angle of that photo.

Jay -- Yeah I came back to .morgue ... Each year we have a whole new generation of Viper owners who potentially need rescuing from The Windbreakers. Careful with those links, you could spread all sorts of corruption and poor taste. I already had my paws slapped by one of the morticians.

I have one and it fits perfectly under my 1994. However, I decided to only use half the handle (space problem)to pump the car up. Bad idea, you need the full handle and a strong back to get the car in the air.

The jack is well worth the money. I paid $200 for mine.

LOL! Thanks for the info! I know about the "bent paper clip" places, what do mean by the crossmembers? And when I jack up under the bent paper clip, where do I put a jack stand?

Is this the same jack offered at Costco a few months back? Janni mentioned they were sold there.

I think so, you might want to PM about this thread...

When you jack up the fron from the "paper clip" go around to the nose of the car and look under it there are 2 frame rails running from front to rear on each side of the car, place jack stand under those, in the front of the car there is a cross member that runs between these two rails that you can use to jack from the center and both front wheels come off the ground at the same time.

Just called the local Harbor Freight store, they said they had it, but for $159?! Think I'll buy via the online store, processing is cheaper than state taxes anyway...

They will have it for $149 in store (I can e-mail you the ad) and you can use the $10 coupon. So compare $139 plus tax to online plus shipping. Mine cost $139 plus tax.

Hey Tony, I don't see a coupon code on your coupon for use online, might be a 9 digit #, hyphenated, i.e., "123-456-789"?

Can anyone comment on the build quality of this jack? I am thinking about buying one, but am trying to get some additional information on the quality of this jack. I know it's not going to be like an $800 racing jack (I don't need this anyway), but want to know what I'm buying. Anyone know where it's made? Any other comments would be helpful!!

if it's the jack pictured in Tony's last post, then it's the exact same jack that our club members have been using for almost a year now. A club member has a very high dollar racing jack and he uses this one more. It periodically requires some maintenance / tweaking and the design that has the set screw in the top of the handle sleeve is bad, as that ends up being the tallest part of the jack! I have seen other jacks that were like this and the sides / handle / machinsm were slightly different and I did not like it as well. This particular jack has heavier duty sides and lift pieces.

I will probably take a trip to Harbor freight and if its the jack in the pic, grab another one.
