The new snake was engineered to be the world-class production based road racer, SECOND TO NONE. That meant making it physically as close to a LeMans Prototype as possible, then adapting it to the street (and making DOT happy in the process). It was not an accident that it is MUCH wider with a lower front end, and as close to "slab" sides as possible, while still retaining styling cues of the Viper. The side scallops that many are complaining about are wind tunnel tested.... they are not that shape by accident. All I have heard about the top speed is that no one is talking because nobody will believe it. This car will speak for itself. Non-believers need not apply.

Dave, I too have high hopes for the next Viper. Though I do wonder why, if it was engineered to be a world class production-based road racer, there is no fixed roof.

BTW - Van Tune claimed a 220 mph top speed on MT Television. If this is, in fact, the factory figure, I can understand why there might be some doubters. Especially in ragtop form.

I still hold my opinion, it looks like crap on the outside..Ill stick with my 2000 GTS..Thanks but no thanks..If i want a vette, ill go to my other garrage..and who really cares about 15 miles per hr more for sacrificing looks..isnt the 2000 a beast to begin with???

For those of you that haven't seen the RT in person, you might want to wait to form your final opinion until you have seen it. It really does look better in person. I agree, it does NOT look as wild as the current, but it is really much different in many respects. On its own (not comparing it to the current), I think it looks great. BUT, if Dodge will only produce the coupe AS SOON AS POSsIBLE, I'll bet most of you would think it meets the need of that wild look. I have pictures of both the RT and coupe on my wall at work and compare them frequently. That coupe is real fine!

I don't like the look either. Not one bit.

I really liked Dan's comment. "Dodge, Different"? Does not look that way to me any more either.

I was looking thru some old viper articles. did you know that a rough picture of this car existed in 1989? dodge knew then which direction they wanted to take after the gen I & II rt/10's

I will keep my opinions to myself until I see the Gen III in person. I do not care for the pictures I saw but I can't argue with the specs. I have my name on one at Woodhouse, my decision will be whether to keep my Gen II also or trade it in.
