The dealer has the right to sell w/ a mark up. I won't ever support a dealer that does that.

Secondly, if someone is willing to pay that price to be one of the first to have one... more power to them.

Dealer markups are what drove me originally to purchase a viper.

I was in line to buy a first year C6 ZR1 for a year or so. I had purchased my last Z06 from the same dealer. He called me one day and say he had a ZR1 inbound, not the color I wanted; but, he would let me havve it for $60k over list. You can guess how fast I ended the all, and from there went looking for a 600HP car that I like, ala the 2008 Viper ACR. Yes, I gave maybe $2500 over list for that car; but, that amount didn't really bother me.

Now that I am hooked on Vipers; I won't buy if you have to pay some ridiculous amount over list either.

friggin joke. Typical stealership move. Someone with money to burn just might be stupid enough to buy that. And thats what there banking on. Its probably the only one there getting.

yeah she'll prolly lose a solid 30% from MSRP within 2 years time....but worth every penny cuz u only live once. But 50k in juice is a different story as its 30% of the manufacturer's suggested retail price....just in juice!

Did you ever think the dealer does not actually want to sell it yet?.....it is eye candy for the showroom and helps make emotions high when customers come in (even if only in the market for a mini van).

If somebody does offer a chunk over MSRP, then they would sell it and the added profit offsets the eye candy value.

Every new car I've ever bought had a "dealer markup" on the window sticker.....I aways walked out paying under MSRP or I didn't buy at that dealership. A new Gen Viper is a different story, but still, apparently there are multiple dealers selling Gen 5's at MSRP.

Here is the more important question that will impact SRT: Who will be the first to get a Gen 5 under MSRP?? Once that happens, it will be interesting to see how the new Gen 5 holds it's value (new or used).

The Nurburgring lap time for the 430 Scuderia is 7:39. The ZL-1 Nurburgring lap time is 7:41. The TA would **** both pretty convincingly. But I get your point. The Viper is not worth anywhere near 190K, JMO.

Well, Sergio Marchione's Challenger sold for 170K so 20k more for a Viper is a pretty good deal.....lol

oh u want my opinion? k. IMO most dealers are only getting one car and its costing them $25k to be able to sell & service SRT. So i think thats why there's an average of $25k worth of juice from most dealerships. They want the buyer of the GTS to basically pay that 25k cost they have to be an SRT dealer. I dont think these dealers plan to make much $$ off of one single Viper allocation. I think the $$ will be made on the Jeep GC and other SRT branded vehicles for the most part. I'd agree that it cant hurt to have in the showroom for a while. But do they really wanna sell it eventually? absolutely. they have 6 figures into it.

The internet is a great consumer resource that wasnt available decades ago. Consumers have never had so much power as they do now with nationwide dealership inventories in a click, dupont registry lists, auto trader, cars.com, forums like this nada, kkb, etc. all for FREE. I suspect that stealerships have earned the name and got away with a lot before the web. But times have changed to assist an educated consumer. Will there still be people whom get ripped off anyway? Absolutely; there's a sucker born every minute.

Im sure there are people out there that will pay over MSRP :) Sometimes you buy something you want because its there!

Not in the same league but Last year I bought a watch in Venice Italy wile on Vacation, when I got home I thought I would check the Internet for the same watch, Sure enough I found it cheaper :( But the thing is, it was the whole buying experience, and have good memories of that Vacation :)

yup I know someone whom paid 100k over sticker last year for an aventador but he was the 1st guy around to roll up in one.

maybe i should say it this way: the corvette is made 30,000 times per year by assembly line robots, has a low price point and every tom dick & harry has one. I see them on the road constantly & therefore they lack exclusivity factor and these components make them not special.

The snake on the other hand is made a bout 1000 times annually, built by hand, has a six figure value and few have them. I've seen less vipers on the road in the past 20 years than i have ferrari's. Hence it is exclusive and indeed a special machine.

I guess ultimately the point I was trying to make was that a rare exotic handmade supercar should be compared to other rare exotic hand made supercars and not to a corvette.

Not really, your initial statement was as bad as you are trying to correct it!

I remember the 2003 SL500 very well...had to have it and in Mars Red only. Paid $10k over sticker with 450 miles on it driven by a MBUSA exec. Let the good times roll :)

Guys, yesterday I rolled up to Stevens Creek Dodge along with 10 Vipers. We had just finished our NorCal VCA lunch and were starting a cruise.

They had a LE and a dealer demo Adrenaline Red GTS with Sepia leather, both with the $50K mark up. First let me say that, WOW. That red with Sepia was drop dead gorgeous. I've just added it to my list of favorite color combos for the Viper. The dealer was very accommodating, my lady and I sat inside both cars. The interior is a masterpiece. This really is a world class car, inside and out!

Back on subject. The Viper sales guy told me they have a bunch more rolling in. When I told them that I have a Stryker Red on order for MSRP, they listened. They said that they will sell them at what others are, and would consider at MSRP. They've only sold one, they have two LEs available among others. Gee, I wonder if the $50k mark up has something to do with it? Duh. I don't like the fact that they try to rip off their customers by suggesting this ridiculous mark up. But it seems they are open to reason. Still, Normandin Chysler got my business because Paul was straight with me from the start.

Paul Normandin is a class act.

But, the day somebody tells me what I can sell a car for is the day I move to North Korea. Dealers should be able to sell what they want for how much they want. In the free market the price will be what it is worth in the eyes of the buyer.

Hmm..... NO. The dealer has one purpose only - to represent and service the brand. Now - if they want to make some money on the side and operate 'auction' or 'used' lot and jack up prices on that - that would be probably up to them although if I would be a manufacturer I wouldn't want to see even that.

But the showroom is a sacred place. They represent a manufacturer there, not themselves. Unless they build the car - which I doubt.

See - good brands try to nurture loyalty and trust in their customers. They know that casinos - and the dealers who mark up - won't win them the race in the long run. So I say that Ralph should clean up his house...

Car Dealer's proverb: You can always go down on your asking price, but you can't go back up. So why not ask a crazy amount, then when they get it for $20K over sticker they'll feel like they negotiated a deal!

We all know there are people willing to pay the price to be the first kids on the block or at C&C with the new toy. Soon enough, supply will meet demand and the price will be at sticker or even below at most dealers.

This happened with the first SRT-4 Neons when came out. I got mine for under sticker and most dealers around Michigan were selling them at a 5-6K mark up on a 20k car. I just laughed at them when they told me that I wouldn't be able to get one.

The two Gen V for sale in Naples each have a $10K kicker....manager asked me if interested, I told them I never want to pay over sticker ...and he told me his "sob story" they had to pay $25K for a package from Dodge, etc....but isn't there about $10K in the markup on the sticker already ???

The laughable part is that as all Viper owners know in a year or two they will be on dealers lots, discounted.
Every introductory Gen is hot hot hot. But everything cools off.
These are just starting off with a higher entry fee.

I've got a few more snapshots, including a couple of the NorCal VCA getting ready to roll to see the Gen V's. I can see why the dealer demos are Adrenaline Red. I had seen a red one with black stripes and it didn't work for me. But this car, with the Sepia, is breathtaking. As is the LE, another one of my favorites.
