Hi, I've owned a Gen One back in the day and I frequented this forum when the Gen 3 was introduced and I'm now looking to purchase a Viper here in Atlanta this week in one of my 2 preferred color combinations; either an '05 Silver convertible or a '06 coupe in Copperhead orange.

But, I remember there were some factory recall engine problems in brand new Gen-3 Vipers which required dealers to replace some of the motor's internal componets. Were these engine probs isolated to the 2004 year models?

I'm not into track, but will use the Viper to commute the 2 miles to my office and then 3 miles to the gym or so 4 days a week or so when in Atlanta. I may ship it to upstate NY during the summers where there I can open 'er up on those long, flat country roads.

As far as I know the problem was with the '03s and I believe it was fixed halfway through the model year. For sure it was fixed by '05.

05 and up I believe had any issues taken care of. The Silver and Copperhead are two wonderful colors! I had to choose also and well you can see....... On the engine side though I have had zero problems. On the boards here there is some posts showing what changes were made through the GenIII years and most were in the 04 year from what I remmeber. Anyway good luck on your choosing!:headbang:

If you are planning on ANY track time invest in the Comp Coupe swing arm oil pan and pick up. The oiling system was prone to failure in that situation.

Yes, 2008.

As posted above, no inherent major issues with 05-06 other than the oil pan issue, which is correctable.

03 had the Valve recall
04 had the loose Cam Bolt recall, and the loose Damper Bolt recall.

Thanks for the motor info, although I'm still looking and my cash is king right now.. but darn, prices are falling still. The F cars.. wow 430 coupe's in the very low 100's !?! With the new California out and the 360/430 replacement coming this year, could be a dream buying scenario for 2 door sport coupes of many brands!
Seeing as how that ebay link is probably gonna be removed, I'll point out that the copperhead coupe is at Palmer Dodge.
Yup, it's at Palmer Dodge. Was probably the lighting but the front-right side just didn't look right to me and the passanger drop window played little hang-up & drop halfway down games so I didn't get that good gut feeling about buying it. They had a beautiful '08 (is it snakeskin) green 'vert there.. wow on the color, but sold on eBay
