The underside of the drivers side dash is a MESS of wiring! Whoever installed this back in 1995 did a horrible job. All splices were done with electrical tape and I have a whole *** of wiring to deal with. I want to uninstall the alarm, but since it has a starter interrupt, I am afraid I will screw up the stock wiring. It is a DEI series 90 (the annoying talking kind). Anybody tried to cleanly remove one before. HELP!

Also, anybody have advice on removing the stock alarm as well? I've already been stranded once away from home when the battery went T.U. I bought a new one and since I don't use the alarm, left the key fob at home (3 hours away). What an inconvenience. Have any of you guys done this?

I installed DEI alarms for 7 years. The system 90 is so old, I don't remember which starter disable it had. DEI used two types, and one of them won't allow you to start the car when you pull the alarm out. In any case, there is a small black Bosch-style relay in a socket, with green, black, orange and yellow wires going to it. If you follow the green and black wires, you will come to a factory wire (usually about 10 or 12 Ga. and yellow in Vipers), that is cut. One end of the yellow wire is connected to the green wire, the other end is connected to the black wire. Cut those connections, then connect the yellow wire back together. Everything should just come right apart without having to reattach factory wires. Or, if you live close to me in South Carolina, you can bring it by and I will remove the whole thing and put the electrical system back to factory specs. It would take me about 45 minutes.

Thanks! That's exactly what I did and the alarm was, in fact, tapped into the yellow ignition/starter wire. Tonight will be tracing down the other wires to the doors, trunk, siren, etc. What a pain to COMPLETELY remove the alarm. Thanks for your input!
