Any downside to MOPAR computer on my 2008, about to go for it, but..

Been reading various older threads, looks like I can get it, have the dealer calibrate to my car, & then swap for track days, emission tests etc on my own. I'm shooting for better overall performance, like response, throttle feel, smoothness, any extra ponies are a plus. Only mods are to my catback at present & doubt I do more. Saving pennies for the gen5 in a few yrs. lol.

Just on the fence if it's worth the $ or not, I think they're running like $700 or something, but have to get a quote.

Where the heck you find one for $700??? I just ordered one from Viper Parts of America for $1090 shipped and that was the cheapest I could find. Plus I'll be out another $150-$175 for programming to my car. I sure hope this upgrade is worth it at least my check engine light will be out(catless) and no more skip shift lol. Already got catless magnaflow and K&N. Gonna add Long tubes this winter and with the controller too maybe I'll be above 600rwhp.

Just a street guy, and did not want to throw codes after doing corsa w/ R/T metal HF cats, so I put one on. Very impressed with the performance, but the d**n thing works so well that it totally removed the decel pop and crack. If you are one of the serious track guys, you will be laughing about right now, but I am sorry, I MISS that!!!

I plan on springing for this mod towards the end of this year. I am going to throw a K&N replacement filter on the car and do this at the same time. I am really hopeful that it will return the throttle reponse and tq that I had expected from an engine of this size.

You may notice the better throttle response, but don't expect any real bump in hp/tq.

This PCM isn't like the Tuned PCM's that the Vendors sell for the Gen3's which add ~30hp. This one basically just allows you to do simple mods (intake/exhaust etc.) and not get a check engine light. Though as mentioned above, it does disable the skip-shift.

When I had mine installed on my '08 I also had H/F Cats and Corsa installed, and since then I've added a Filter and a Ported Intake. No CEL's and the car runs really good. I do agree about the low-end Torque - It just isn't there like the older Vipers. Good thing it more than makes up for it at higher rpm's!:D

IIRC, the Mopar PCM cost me a little over $1,000, and another $125 for the dealer to install and calibrate.

It's not emissions legal, of course, but if your state doesn't test for emissions, or you're exempt because of milage (like I am here in PA), then you're OK.

Hmm, 1100-1200 bucks total, argh, gurgle. Not sure where the $700 came from, just thought I saw it when I was going blind trying to read thru mopar computer threads on searches. I'll have to think that over. I gotta say, I miss the Gen3 just a lil bit every day, lol.

Yea I have emissions test in MD, they read the OBDII port, every 2 yrs, just had mine done this month, but read that i can just swap for emissions, drive a couple weeks & should test fine, then swap back ... i mean not that i would evet do that, I'm just sayin.

$700 is probably for a Tuned Gen3 PCM.

You can swap it for emissions.

Miss the Gen3? I guess in some ways I miss my '06 as well, but to cure that, take the Gen4 to Cecil for a trip down the 1/4 mile. That'll make you like it more!

Got my PCM done just after my full Belanger kit went on the car, and I love the PCM.

Downside is the exhaust burble and decel pop is now gone, but after awhile I don't miss it.

If you have an 08 and get this PCM, you'll love the added PCM updates you'll get from the 09/10 computers as well as the smoother idle, better throttle response and maybe around 10 hp.

No more decal pop.
Went into limp mode numerous times (only after hitting rev limiter a couple of times), but a new cam senor is suppose to fix this (haven't been on track since new cam sensor so I won't know for sure).
