Hi
I have a 2000 RT/10 and was thinking of getting some random tech high flow cats to go with my mopar performance exhaust.

Anyone have any regrets? roe vs random tech? Will it pass emmissions in Ontario Canada??

Let me know thanks

I installed the HF Metal cats from Partsrack. I passed calif smog no problem. Previous owner had installed some HF cats, I don't know the brand, with headers. I blew those out at the track. One of the reasons I went with the Metal ones.

My belief was the metal was stronger and worth the price of admission over the ceramic. I have the Random Tech Metal ones. If I only drove my car on the street I may have opted for the ceramic....maybe.

I have the ceramic RT hi flow cats. When I consulted with JonB on my exhaust sound goals, he recommended the ceramic cats since I was looking for a deeper exhaust note and I wasn't planning on going S.C or turbo anytime soon. If I were to do it again, I'd go metallic 'cause of course now I want to go S.C. Side sills are cooler and I have passed emissions here in CT with them and the entire Belanger exhaust system.

What if you don't ever plan on putting a supercharger on the viper would you still choose metal over ceramic?

I think the metal ones flow slightly better than the ceramic. I held my metal ones up to the sun and could see a ton of light straight through them. I asked what the difference was on the metal compared to ceramic and was told by Jon B. that you cant see daylight through the ceramic. He also said the metal is much louder than the ceramic. Just being that the metal ones were louder was enough to tell me they flow a tad bit better. So yes i went with metal over ceramic. I dont have anything to compare them to but the sound is great.

I'd stick with ceramic. Unless I perform internal engines mods like head work and the cats become a restriction I see no need to switch.

Bernie or Jon, can either of you tell me what's on my car? I bought them from Jon last year if that helps and Bernie installed them so maybe he remembers.

Supersaiks. Was catless.(Headers/no cats/corsa) Loud, cool side sills. No sniffing here. Then I got the metal ones from Jon B. Still cool side sills. Quieter but a BETTER sound.Still much louder and better than stock. The distributer for them is around the corner from me in Buffalo. You could have Dan(Viper Specialty perf) pick them up for you. Go to his place to install and drive back home with no taxes as in gst or shipping etc. I orderd through Jon B. Picked them up myself localy. No tax,No shipping,Worked with a friend in his garage to install. Still a very manly, very Viper sound. GTS Bruce

id never use ROE HF's again. they blew in one year. junk

also im pretty sure i had a major engine problem recently due to clogged cats.(or in part) and these were NOT the roe's by the way.

DLM found out i had cats on the car and immediately removed them weather i liked them or not..lol. he does NOT like cats on s/c'd cars.

and to be honest, it sounds killer now under WOT without them.

Explaining Viper things to you
Parts Rack ceramic cats here with Belanger mufflers in the sills too.

Pleasantly loud at WOT. Like ring your ears loud. See my post on temp reduction in the sills for some data on what happens in that department.

Hi Phil,
I believe you must have been referring to the ceramic ones from a few years ago, not the metallic ones from the last two years. Between ceramic and metallic substrates, the metallic withstand the richer air / fuel ratios better.
The stainless steel ones used to cost about three times ceramic, but came down a couple years ago.
We offer the metallic subtrate cats in both a 2.5" direct fit replacement and a 3" version for use with headers.
We've sold hundreds of the metallic ones since we switched. They are available on our website and we're having a sale on Ebay right now:

eBay Motors: Dodge Viper Direct Replac. High Flow Cats, 1992-2002 (item 130235908283 end time Jul-08-08 12:59:57 PDT)

CATS : 2 1/2" or 3" Direct Replacement High Flow Metallic Substrate Catalytic Converter Set - 1992 - 2002 - Exhaust Systems - Roe Racing

Hope everyone is having a good fourth of July Holiday weekend!
Sean

Yep, I just looked up the info in Quickbooks.
You bought a set of ceramic ones in February of '05 and we changed vendors to get the metallic ones in '06.

From what it sounds like, your car should be running without cats anyway (as you are now). Two sets from two different places failing is kind of a good indication. :)

I installed the Roe 2.5" metallic cats at the same time I did the Borla. Happy with the resulting sound, good fit, and no codes.

I have the Random Tech's. I blew one about a year ago when I lost an O2 sensor. Replaced the O2's and cat and have been fine ever since. Passed California smog about three months back. No regrets.

Metallic cats, no issues, no regrets. One of the best mods you can do to save the factory side sill insulation from destruction.
