After reading the thread on spinning out it makes me wonder-Does anybody stay within posted limits most of the time? Is it possible to have that much power and be able to resist the temptation to use it? I have driven some nice cars but only one came close to the power of a Viper (and it was scary).

I have Bill P. looking for my 'dream car' and both my wife and I will be taking instructions on how to drive and control this beast (Viper days and later Skip Barber). Wifey has given me 'one get out of speeding' pass so, of course, I'll get a top of the line radar unit since the red Vipers look fast even sitting still :D . I am a firm believer that there is a time and place for everything and the public street is not for racing (wow-did I actually learn something from my youth  ). We want to experience the raw power but want to do it in the proper enviroment.

Thanks (and please don't suggest a Neon that looks like a Viper)

I am usuually within 5 MPH of the posted speed limits, except on the rare occassions when...

[I plead the 5th Ammendment]

...and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I never look at my speedometer! Three Vipers with several years of Viper driving and a Valentine I - no tickets yet!

For me, it is just a toy car. Drive it on weekends when nice and dry/sunny out. No reason to go putt around in viper, just to uncomfortable for that and why risk road damage to run chores. Take it for grin's, giggles, raising hell and showing off.

Anyone can just buy a viper and just drive it, but it take an real animal to tame the beast.

Good question Bill, and I think most on this board are of the drive it mentality, me included!

I have never averaged over 10mpg in my Viper, not once, including several 200+ mile romps to Toronto, Grand Bend, Michigan etc., it just doesn't happen. I have a blast getting on it when prompted by others, I love it.

If I feel like driving slow I take something else!!

Get a Roe Supercharger and VEC2! I got 17.3 MPG city/highway/full throttle on my last tank of gas. I've never gotten below 13.4 MPG with the Roe Supercharger, even though I tried to on the last tankfull. I'm saving so much money on gasoline that I will get my Viper some 100 octane unleaded racing gas this summer and I will [edit- 5th Ammendment Pleaded here] to prove once and for all that YELLOW Vipers are Faster !

One of the Policemen I saw told me that people around you will try to goad you to drive fast.

Who wants to see a slow Viper?

Now I feel like I have a good reason when I get pulled over. "They made me do it. I'm just a victim."

Seriously though, I think even the local police appreciate the Viper and tend to look the other way if you go a little ******* it.

They certainly didn't do that when I drove the Porsche turbo.

Have to agree with the goading....you will notice lots of ricers and 5.0 mustangs riding your bumper trying to get you to engage warp drive. You have nothing to prove to anyone by doing that unless you want to. It's a fun car to go crusin' in on a Sunday afternoon with the wife and just enjoy it. Heck, you may spend more time at the gas station or local hangouts just talking gears....

Foot out of it??? How about a motorcycle cop telling me he couldn't even pace me on a side street on my way to work :)

No ticket though. (He appreciated the car and it was 4:45 in the morning)
