Never seen that stuff, the only engine treatment I put in my cars is the original Linkite or AvBlend, the true metal weters, lubricators and carbon removers.

DuPont Chemical Corporation is the inventor of PTFE and holder of the patents and trademarks for Teflon. In a statement issued about ten years ago, DuPont's Fluoropolymers Division Product Specialist, J.F. Imbalzano said, "Teflon is not useful as an ingredient in oil additives or oils used for internal combustion engines."

I'd pass on this and any other oil additive.

Learn more here or search the FTC here . Type in oil additives and read away.....

Sounds very similar to the Z-max product advertised by Mario Andretti. He uses it in the race cars he owns and his daily drivers. The main difference is Z-max is used only once. I'm thinking about throwing some in my Lexus.

Tufoil has noting to do with DuPont, PTFE, or Teflon.

Tufoil was invented by an entrepreneur/scientist named Franklin Reick who is an award winning inventor.

When reading www.tufoil.us/tufoil_FAQ.htm, I found this to be interesting...
Tufoil is a highly-developed lubricant friction modifier with a total of eleven patents, U.S. and international. It is referred to repeatedly in the technical literature. Your new car warranty will not be effected by its use. We do recommend that you run your new car between 5,000-10,000 miles to wear in and seat the rings before you start using Tufoil. In spite of what you are told by the manufacturer, it is still wise to break in the engine carefully before using friction and wear modifier oils.

Also, reading this www.tufstuff.com/tufoil/guinness.html is very interesting...
The Guinness Book of World Records has declared Tufoil to be the World's most slippery substance.

Caveat Emptor....

*****************************************************

I knew Frank and in fact shared a warehouse with him in Saddle River, NJ back in 1982. This first exerpt is from his current promotional material:

WHAT IS Tufoil®

Tufoil is a precisely formulated blend of synthetic and mineral oils with electro statically charged sub micron particles of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and soluble molybdenum compounds suspended in and dispersed throughout the carrier. This additive mixes with both mineral and synthetic oils to provide the very best in protection from frictional wear and high temperatures. While there are those who may doubt the effectiveness of the Teflon inside the product we have an excellent analogy. Four households were each given the ingredients to make a chocolate cake but after baking only one came out tasting perfect yet they all had the same ingredients. The answer lies in how the ingredients were mixed and with the technical knowledge of the maker to create a perfect product. The manufacturers of Tufoil have a unique worldwide patented process, which provides a way to incorporate the Teflon into the product to make it the best additive available.

*************************************************

This conclusion seems to be borne out by tests on oil additives containing PTFE conducted by the NASA Lewis Research Center, which said in their report, "In the types of bearing surface contact we have looked at, we have seen no benefit. In some cases we have seen detrimental effect. The solids in the oil tend to accumulate at inlets and act as a dam, which simply blocks the oil from entering. Instead of helping, it is actually depriving parts of lubricant."

*****************************************************

The Federal Trade Commission has filed suit in U. S. District Court seeking to halt false and misleading advertising for zMax auto additives and has asked the court to order refunds to consumers who bought the products. The agency alleges that enhanced performance claims for the product are unsubstantiated, that tests cited to support performance claims actually demonstrated that motor oil treated with zMax produced more than twice as much bearing corrosion than motor oil alone, and that the three different products - an engine additive, a fuel line additive and a transmission additive - were all actually tinted mineral oil. zMax is manufactured by Oil-Chem, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. Speedway, based in Concord, North Carolina, operates NASCAR race tracks in the South and in California, in addition to marketing the zMax products.

********************************************

Avco Lycoming, a major manufacturer of aircraft engines, states, "We have tried every additive we could find on the market, and they are all worthless."

Briggs and Stratton, renowned builders of some of the most durable engines in the world, says in their report on engine oil additives, "They do not appear to offer any benefits."

North Dakota State University conducted tests on oil additives and said in their report, "The theory sounds good - the only problem is that the products simply don't work."

Consumer report did an in depth research on oil additives and different oils, they took 80 brand new N.Y city cabs, put additives in some ,they used most all name brands on the market at the time, they used synthetic in some ,multigrade in others.Basically they spread it accross the board, they put 80,000 hard miles on these cars with oil changes every 3,000 miles. In ending there research they removed the engines observed and miked for bearing, cyl. and overall wear on the internal components. They also had the oil analysed for ppm of different metals. All said and done there conclusion was even with different driving habits not to mention the 24/7 abuse on a N.Y cab, there was little difference in the amt of wear on these motors, bottom line was use an oil that has the "american petrolium institute" certified seal on it change your oil every 3,000 or 3 months and leave the additives for the why do today what i can put off till tommorow people. If you ever followed any of the consumer report investigations you will see that they spend a considerable amt of time and money into the products that they investigate while remaining neutral

Well, dam, that's a mouth full. I stand severely corrected. Thanks for the sold information, Ron.

Also, good to know what Vipermed said about the consumer report on different oil additives and oils.

All of this is excellent knowledge to have.
