I'm doing something inspired by the new hood but not exact line for line. It should be ready mid May.

Jeff you are the man. Did you pick up that 08 hood for sale recently in the classifieds?

Yes, but I had to give it back. It seems the seller later found out (after the sale) that he was not supposed to be selling it.

It was BEAUTIFUL.

I miss it.

Give it back? Man, you are a nice guy as I would have kept it! Unless something is stolen you should not have to give it back.

Here's a thought:

Did you see the recent articles on the new C6 Callaway vette? It has kind of a 'shaker' style bump in the center of the hood ... how about a template for having a body shop cut a hole in the stock hood, and then adding a kit to fit over Roe's new supercharger system ???

Jeff, are you going to make a updated air box assembly and filters for your new hood that will take advantage of the larger hood scoop?

DC did not like the fact that it was out in public hands. You have to respect that. There is a marketing strategy that must be maintained.

Probably not. The version I will make will be simple and be desiged for 03-06 airboxes. Like I said, INSPIRED by the 08 design, but it will have a faster, slightly different appearance. I had the 08 hood on my car for about 2 weeks. Once I gave the hood back and the older hood went back on, it was a real disappointment appearance wise (boring) and I've been dying for that 08 look ever since. I can't take it any more so I'm doing my own.

I would not clone the '08 hood. I think a replacement that would return to a clamshell (like the comp coupe), replacing both fenders and the hood would be the cats meow. Or snakes bite in this case. The car is clearly ready for a clamshell hood given the fender/side panel joint.

I think about doing that ALL THE TIME. In the end, I'd have a fortune in the project with the amount of time and engineering involved. A bunch a people might like it, but most people won't do it so I'd never get my money back. It starts to get close to the "Lambo Doors" comment posted above.

I wouldn't add the new hood to my '04.

I simply think the style of original louvers can't be improved upon. When I look at them it is obvious that a lot of thought went into their styling. The new hood design appears to be driven by the functionality needed for the 600 HP engine - which is great IF you have that engine.

It is all a matter of style and what you like......

To be perfectly clear, if I were buying a new Viper, the new hood would be fine!!

The NEW '08 hood was redesigned(at least where the louvres are located on the hood) because the airflow over the car from "old" hood directs all the hot air from the louvres into the cars cockpit. I was told by someone who worked on the design of the car that they could not have made a design that channels/pumps the heat into the car better "if" they had wanted to(no it was not intentional just a by product of the design and aerodynamics). i would consider the new hood to cool the cars cockpit and engine down better if there is a reasonably priced copy around. The stock hood ('08)may not be that expensive anyway, i have heard the '03-'06 hood are only around $1000+ - unpainted anyway.

I hope you at least pulled a mould or made a plug off the hood while it was in your hands? ;)

No, I did not. There will not be any exact copies coming from me.

I will be sculpting my own and, admittedly, the factory version is hard to beat. I think everyone will like the version that I have in mind, but it will be debatable on weather it is better or worse than the factory version.

The SRT designers did a great job on this.

Personally, I like the look of the 03-06s better ... it just has smoother and better integrated lines ... the '08 hood looks like it was just developed to make the car look more aggressive (which it doesn't need) ... IMHO

Jeff,

Congratulations for being creative in your own talented way rather than a copycat artist.

Keep up the good work! :2tu:

When will you be able to produce your new hood and will there be the possibility of a group buy? Any preliminary idea on price?

The new design should be a great help for engine bay temperature management on supercharged Vipers since the heat extraction openings will be in the right place for a change......

As a bonus, I suspect that your hood in combination with a Corsa exhaust system could reduce cockpit temperature in a very measurable way.

Hope to see more pictures as the projects advances.

Thanks. I do want to clarify that the picture I posted is the factory version but ours will have that sort of feel to it. A group buy is very possible and I completey agree about this hood keeping things cooler.

Definitely a cool hood design DC came up with, but Im pretty sure whatever design Jeff has in his head will be worthy of putting on the Viper.
