Anyone interested in some Magnacor wires

If anyone is interested in some Magnacor plug wires please email me. I want to do a buy in because these things are just really hard to get and expensive. These are 10 mm wires, wih great boots, etc... I change my plugs weekly, and these are the only wires I haven't had problems with. They retail for 250+. If I can get enough people to do a buy in we can get them for a great price. If you dont know what they look like I can post a pic. They look 10X better than MSD, Accel, taylor etc...

I want to say that I have used Magnecor wires in my 650R for several years now. They have been subjected to high header temps etc, and have never once let me down. Magnecor wires come with a limited warranty on their wires that will "repair or replace FREE OF CHARGE if the product should fail for any reason other than abuse, accident, negligence, etc"... Darn'd fine outfit if you ask me. Oh yah... the most important part... they look cool too!

I would like to see a picture of the wires also. How much is the great price. I was going to buy some MSD in the next week or so at $75. Are they close to this price?

just a question. Why would you use these plug wires? Didn't ORECA use the mopar spark plug wires ? The GTSR's at Road Atlanta all used mopar wires. Why is your car different that it wouldn't run on these.???

Albert is right-on about the wires holding up well!

Magnecor's are reasonably priced for the quality you are getting and proven under extreme conditions. When tuning and spark plug reading the constant removal of the plug wire boots can damage the core of the wires. The Magnecor's are very tolerant of this practice. Magnecor will add extra glue (silicone) upon request. They also are a "must" when the addition of headers are installed to your snake. The higher under-the-hood temperatures can easily damage stock wires especially if they come in brief or "near" contact with the headers. The Magnecor's KV 8.5 mm or KV 10.0 mm provide excellent insulation against these harmful environments.

Regarding "stock" wires; they are proven to work well on the racetrack/street use but, I would wonder how often they are indeed replaced after race day? I've attended races to watch our favorite GTSR in action and witnessed them toss many parts in the "circular file" before hitting the track.

But if you really wanted to improve your ignition system isn't about the only thing you might do to improve combustion is a multispark discharge system with a high output coil?

I'm a big fan of Magnecor wires which I have used on my other cars. Magnecor lists the 10mm Viper set as PN 1911 @ $276.78 list price. If we could get them under $200, I'd be interested.

Jay, your note from the Jacob's website about insulation thicker than 8.5mm slowing down the spark is BS and would certainly make me question if they know what they are talking about in general. There is no capacitive loading with 100% silicon sleeving. The only capacitance would be to the engine and a thicker insulation would only help that by ensuring a greater distance between the conductor and the metal of the engine, although it would probably be insignificant in any case. I deal with high energy power spikes similar to this in another application and silicon is the optimum sleeving for dieletric strength and flexibility and has good thermal resistance. The hyped claims of built-in capacitance to boost spark energy, etc. made by some of these companies is also totally marketing BS.

Thanks to all who have posted the postive information on the Magnecor wires. We are just trying to help our Viper friends get the good parts.

The advertising by Jacobs is their typical advertising. They have tried to get many shops to carry their parts and make a buy-in. Their wires are good and the ceramic boots are very nice. The only problem is that their wires are not secured as well as the Magnecors to their boots. They use a little metal clip that pushes into the wire end and then you have to glue the boots on. The Magnecors come ready to install and with the best warranty. Why mess with it?

Jason, to answer your question about the MSD. Yes it is possible. We have installed dual MSD-Di units to handle all the ignition upgrades with options like a dual rev-limit, and Nitrous retard function. The MSD also helps burn all the very rich fuel at WOT and helps reduce the neutral gear rattle at idle due to a cleaner idling engine.

The install is in-house only at this time and takes at least two days to complete. It is a comprehensive upgrade but has great benefits. You can set the first rev limit off the clutch switch and launch consistently at WOT at your predetermined RPM. This also helps reduce the engine RPM during shifts, which minimizes the chance of broken/bent parts during powershifts or missed shifts.

The retard also allows more nitrous and the ability to fine tune the system for more power without the fear of detonating the pistons. Should be a must have for all late model Vipers with the hyperpathetic pistons. A clear example would be the stock GTS that Sean Ogburn/D. Wilks drives. He is running low 10's on radials with a 375 shot of gas on a stock engine without any failures.

Bill, I guess we'll have to disagree on Jacobs quality..... I know a number of people that have used their ignition systems and love them (not on Vipers, on race cars)and several Viper owners who use their wires and have had no issues at all. But You likely have purchased and tested a lot more wire sets than I have.

Pretty sure that the Jacobs blurb did not have to do with insulation, I agree insulation thickness affecting capacitance makes no sense.

As for Magnecor, very nice wires, I had a set of them on my Mustang SVO a few years back...... The first place to list their availability was this very web site! Ed Comb's has them on DV-II and loves them and is trying to get me to put them on my Viper.

The thing that intrigues me about the Jacobs wires is the boot, you are not going to melt it.....

As one that has experimented with every ignition system upgrade available....Jacobs stuff *****. I have never seen a coil from one of their "Ultra" setups last longer than a couple of months on a street-driven setup. The Jacobs wires are also less than adequate in terms of construction....a turbo car will chew up a Jacobs wire and spit it out. The underhood temps from any heavy hitter with headers will kill ANY wire...bar none.

I will say that the Magnecors are better from an assembly standpoint...but don't expect much from them if you need to have a wire replaced under warranty. I worked at a shop where we literally had a box full of Magnecors that had "died", either a construction failure or the resistance value was out of range for the application, and you couldn't get Magnecor to replace any of them. WE BOUGHT HUNDREDS OF WIRE SETS...and no warranty replacement on obviously defective wires.

My money would be on the Accel 300+ series wires....and there are specific model numbers that have a special boot for those worried about the heat from the headers.

I've been looking into these "Ceramic Boot" Jacobs wires to install with the Borla Headers I got for my car.... The Ceramic boots seem to be perfect for headers, At $194 (+/-) they seemed high, but not compared to $250.....

It is sort of fun reading all the plug wire sites info, sort of like reading oil mfg sites, every one seems to have a reason why theirs is the best and a different thoery supporting the reason, take for example Jacobs, they states:

NOTE: 8.5mm is the optimum thickness. It retains all the spark energy. Wires thicker than 8.5mm slow down spark travel because they introduce too much capacitive loading (the electrical equivalent of inertia).

would you have the model number for the wires? Look at the Jegs site, but no luck for the Viper.

Dan Cragin, just a thought, but if your looking to stock some Magnecore wires and want the 10mm then get in on the action with Albert. Like I said, just a thought.

before i say i am in. how many miles before your are recommended to change the stock wires? i am not changing headers from stock and only have 4,500 miles on my 2001.
so when will i need new wires?
if anytime soon i will go in.

I have emailed most of you with the price for the wires, but if I missed you please email me for price. I could only get 15 of you guys to order so the price wasn't as good as I wanted. If you want a set email me tonight and I will get back with you asap. I want to do this now, they have them in stock and will get them out within 2 days. thanks
