Albert,

I would try Sean Roe's VEC1 engine calibrator (I don't think you'd want to use the Mopar computer and the VEC1 at the same time, however). I've got one on my car, and it has a knob that lets you adjust timing and fuel mixture. Unfortunately, there are not separate controls for this (eg. as you richen the mixture, you remove timing, as you lean out the mixture, you add timing). However, if you're using NOS and want to back off timing, it probably wouldn't hurt to fatten the fuel mixture for added safety against detonation.

Sean could tell you exactly how to set the knob to remove about 4 degrees of timing.

Ben.

The simplest way to do this is to put in a colder spark plug. A slightly shorter (colder) plug will slightly retard the timing by pulling back the ignition center in the cylinder. I use the NGK FR5-1 plug which is only slightly colder that the stock plug, but fixes the detonation problem that I was getting after installing tri-y headers. There is a Champion web page on the internet that explains this theory for long extension plugs. Look at: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/sparkplugs.html under: Projected Nose Y Gap.
