Anyone use a trickle battery charger on their Viper?

Any special kind anyone recommends? I try to get my Viper out of the garage every two to three weeks whether I need to or not. However, sometimes two weeks turns into three and three turns into four and then the battery is dead.

I have used a cteck from Groits garage and have had no issues and they give you a life time warrantee

This topic has been on here numerous times over the years and the only way to go is with a Deltran Battery Tender. NO trickle charger please. And the best price is on Amazon with free shipping too. I have several of them for the car and boat, and they last forever. Your post did not actually mention batteries but the highest ratings come from the Duralast Platinum (Auto Zone) which is the only one I use or the Die Hard Gold series. The Optima has been reviewed on her numerous times too and many reviewers have had bad results for Viper use. Mostly in the way it fits or mounts.

I have used Battery Tender and Battery Tender Plus on at least seven different vehicles over the years. Currently using a Plus on my 93 Viper. Very happy with the charger performance.

A good quality electronic tender will keep a battery for 9 years.......or more. My experience is with deep-cycle UPS batteries but even car batteries like a constant low charge voltage while resting in the garage.... Temps matter. Cold batteries last longer but need a lower tending voltage. Warm batteries will juice it up hard but roast sooner....

I just swapped my 9 yo battery back in March. The old '94 just keeps gettin' on!!

I have used this one for a couple of years now, it works great. Hard wired a pig tail so I just have to reach in the back through the bumper cutouts and plug it in.

is it best to leave the security alarm off while she sits in the garage or does she shut herself down more when the alarm is activated in terms of preservation of battery life? weekend driver and I've heard mixed opinions on it; don't own a tender

Battery tender is on mine at all times and no issues as of yet with original battery but I'm sure there are other brands that work fine. I don’t put it in sleep mode, just park and plug the tender in.

You can leave you alarm on with the battery tender connected since the tender will keep you battery always fully charged. You need a tender if you do not drive the car weekly since it keeps that battery fully charged and ready to go. $30 anywhere and just clip on and connect to the booster posts in the engine bay. highly recommended.

Although I agree that there is a lot of info on the forum about battery chargers, what the archives don't discuss is the advancement in both batteries and chargers over the last few years. Many of us are now using AGM batteries (like a Sears Die Hard Platinum) and those require a battery tender that has an AGM setting. If you use a battery tender from 5 years ago, it may not be designed for that application and in the end, it shortens an expensive AGM batteries lifespan.

My CTEKs not only have an AGM option, but if you store your Viper in cold temps, it has a setting to allow the charger to up the voltage a little to compensate for the lower temps.
