There are way too many benefits to list, that is not to say that the Vec 2 is a bad unit. Its like comparing a Vec 1 with a Vec 2, if that makes any sense to you.

The VEC2 and a AEM unit can't be compared. The VEC is a gadget that manipulate the stock ECU (been using it for years) Good enough in most aplications. The AEM is a system that replaces the stock ECU and let you take controll over the engine.

Get the AEM. It's like Russ said, the VEC 2 limits your capability to tune the car. Of course it's more difficult and time consuming to learn to tune, but if you want complete control of the engine, the AEM is a great option.

We just installed the AEM EMS on our Gen I TT after removing the VEC2. The VEC2 worked great, but with all of the mind boggling features the AEM affords us, it seemed like the logical upgrade.

Macedo,
how easy is the install? any special tools?

Swapping in the AEM for the stock ECU is plug and play--anyone could do it. However, there is one wrinkle. There is something about the electric door locks and security system that will work only with the stock ECU, so if you want everything to work like stock you have to remount your stock ECU in the car (usually up under the dash on the passenger side) and run a wire from the AEM to it. If you don't, certain gremlins pop up, like the doors will still open and close normally, but if you get out and close the doors with the engine running you're locked out. All the above is covered in the installation instructions that come with the AEM.

And the second wrinkle is you may need a professional tuner to get it right.

I don't think there is any may to that one--unless you are a major gearhead to start with and also willing to invest a ton of time in learning how to program the AEM (like Tony), you WILL need a professional tune.

So this AEM unit for $2900 replaces the stock PCM and comes with two wideband oxygen sensors ? Not bad.

How difficult to program it ?
How does it make the adjustment to the AFR ?
Do you have target AFR when WOT ?

very difficult to program for someone who hasn't done it before or for someone who hasn't taken the class...

2900 sounds about right. i didn't think that came w/ the widebands though... maybe it does.

All Viper AEM units come with dual widebands built in.

Unless you know your stand alones you need to have a pro do it. This offcourse is only if you have lots of mods, for a stock or close to it car it comes with a fantastic map.

You can and must attach a computer to it to program and monitor anything you like. It also has lots of data loging capabilities, for instance on my car it runs in a continueos 30 min cycle.

There are many ways to make it adjust afr, it depends on your car and tuner.

Target AFR is what you or your tuner want it to be, and yes it show you all of that while tuning.

Go to:

aempower.com
Sport compact/electronics section (dont ask me why its under sport compact).

Direct link to sample software.

Yeaaaaaaa.....and Tony got his azzzzz kicked by it and is back with the vec2. I will be back with the AEM at some point, I just needed to do some racing/dynoing/autocrossing before I had time to get the tune like it needed to be. I have experience with other stand alones.....this one has a whole bunch of stuff you can mess up :D

Whats remarkable is Larry and Scott at M2 put the AEM on a GEN 1, which the AEM is not made for. That is awesome.

Nothing remarkable.

The AEM unit is a true stand alone engine management system, which happens to offer an adaptor for gen 2 vipers. They also offer universal race units that can be put on anything.

All m2 had to do was make a custom wirring loom, and now you have an AEM on a gen 1. All it takes is money anything can happen.

According to M2, its more involved than that.
