Archer\'s Comp Coupe

I went to a party this evening at 3R racing to celebrate Tommy Archer's championship win in the Speed World Challenge.

First time I've seen a Comp Coupe in real life. Very cool car.

You must have been wearing a disquise. I'm suprised I didn't run into you. Nice party. Some mentioned how clean the shop was but it's always that clean, even during the week.

I was looking at them too when I was there, and I think that they hold the window in place. If you rotate them out of the way, I think the window would pop out. Perhaps it is a safety thing to get him out of the car in the event of a crash, or maybe so they could quickly swap out his window in the pits if it gets broken? I don't know.

His comp coupe is not a "stock" coupe. I spoke with a guy familiar with his car, who estimated that they have put more than $200,000 in the car over and above the initial purchase price. One thing I did notice was the brake rotors are slotted 2-piece, not the one piece that the standard comp coupe comes with.

I could tell from the good natured jokes between Tommy and his crew that Tommy is very particular about how his car is prepared. Lots of people commented that no matter how hard they worked that he was always pushing them to make the car a little better, and was never 100% satisfied. I guess that's why he's the champion.

One thing they talked about last night that had never occurred to me before is the effect of the additional weight penalty on the car's handling. Every time they have to add weight to the car because of a win or strong finish, they then have to re-do the suspension, as the additional weight will affect the handling of the car. As they were constantly getting weight adjustments over the season, they then had to constantly change the car's suspension to compensate for it.

Re: Archer\'s Comp Coupe

The Comp Coupes come with the stock SRT glass windshield, which is a mistake if you ask me... They have probably replaced the glass with a Lexan windshield and those clips, which you'll see on most of the VRL GT-1 cars, are used to hold it in.

Note also the "enhanced" WCGT wing vs. the one that comes on the CC's... This was apparently a quiet (as in unpublicized) change made during the season by most of the WCGT CC teams.
