Are your transmissions holding up to 800+ rwhp?

No, it's not a Viper, but I've been having reliability issues with my T56 (breaking teeth off of input shaft and countershaft gears).

So, what are you guys doing for a reliable trans at the 800+rwhp level?

Has anyone here tried the g-force upgrades?

The Viper's T56 is a little bit stronger than the run of the mill T56 that shows up in Fbodies, and the SVT Cobras....thats why 2 T56 trannys are offered for my Mustang, the regular T56 and the "Viper Spec" T56 (even comes with the Viper logo stamped on the case)

...but about Gforce stuff...they do a lot for Mustang trannys too and ive found that they are hit or miss...some people have success with them, and some blow them up like a stock tranny...

For anybody who DRIVES their car, the stock Viper tranny will not last very long with 800+ RWHP..... I think the longest I had one last was about 2,500 miles. I stripped off the teeth on the input cluster like peeling a bananna. I have heard good things about the G-force. It has almost straight cut gears and triple cone synchronizers I think even for 3-4. Even if the trans can hold the power the clutch will eventually give out.

Over 800 at the rear wheels and toasted 2 trannys and one diff. It did involve well over 100 1/8 mile drag strip starts. Damn, it was worth it.
Now cryogenically treated for both and standing up well.

How much and what did they do to strengthen it?

It cost me $2000 plus my core return. They say they strengthen the forks?? I don't know but so far it's held up.

Thanks for the feedback. I knew there were some differences between the Viper and F-body T56's. The only one I knew of for sure was the size of the output shaft.

I know a 4l80 could take the power, but I really would prefer to keep the 6-speed. I just don't want to drop 3k+ on a trans just to have it scatter.

I think I'll call G-force in the morning and see what they have to say. (they rate their trans at 800 ftlbs torque, but I exceed that now at the tires).

We are working on a permanent solution - a synchro box that will be rated around 1000lb ft - and have a shift time a fraction of what a T-56 has.

Prototype is still a wee while from ready for testing and we also need to test the market.

This will be a world class box and the price will be the price as we'll not mark it up with any Viper tax - but it will be up there due to the cost of making them. People can then choose to stick with a beefed T-56 box that is treated and replace them every once in a while - or buy one of these.

It will however be the best money can buy and worth it to those who want the best. This box will make a Liberty look like a antiquated Toploader, but may take some months to get into production - and then subject to sufficient interest. I'll be able to give more details during July - but wanted you to know we are onto this - and other weak areas we have identified.. - it all takes time to do properly and that is the only way we'll do it so people know they get what they pay for

:2tu:

So if the Tranny is beefed up, halfshafts are upgraded, and the engine is putting out 1000 RWHP and 1000 RWTQ, what is the weak point? What is going to break if something does break? Basically, what becomes the weakest link?

Saw this box with Tork and can tell you this unit will be almost impossible to break. One thing for sure this will be in my car. Tork the only problem is we need to get this done faster than planned. Well, good things always take time but I hope this tranny will be out soon to support the higher HP and TQ coming out of the upgraded Vipers. This box is promising and I am anxious to see what it can do. Manny maybe the weakest link will be the driver.

Then I may need to build up my SRT10 to 1,000 RWHP, but run it with only 4 pounds of boost so I get a mere 800 rear wheel, and then I can crank it up to 12 pounds once I get a monster tranny in the thing :) This way I can have some good power now, and then the ultimate power late. Wooooh!

My visual mods for the SRT-10 have been ordered.

Just figured I would give you guys an update.

I ended up getting the G-force T56 with the triple cone conversion,300m 30 spline output shaft.

So far it shifts beautifully, but it does make a bit of gear noise which is most noticeable in 1st/2nd, and if it makes noise in 5th or 6th I can't hear it over the exhaust (which isn't very loud).

Hopefully my drag wheels will be in soon, and I will find out how well this trans holds up to some launches at the strip.
