Frank Parise and Erik Messlwey did a thread on this board a couple of years ago. In reality, the shift point may well vary on the gears involved. It is my understanding that you are attempting to have the torque level after the shift still fall within the Viper's thankfully wide peak torque band. Shifting at 5,500 is a decent rule of thumb. If you can get to a dyno, try some runs in second, third and fourth to see where the flat part of the curve is. On my car, in fourth, it is from 3,600 to about 4,600.
In the meantime, follow a conservative break in procedure. Good things come to those who wait !
