On a 2001 RT/10 single subwoofer, should I go with a 4 ohm or 8 ohm with stock head unit and amp? What is the difference??:dunno:
you should be fine with a 4ohm. ohm is the impedence-the load the speaker places on the amplifier. 4ohms on a single sun should be fine.

If I remember correctly from my past that if you drop the ohms, there is more heat build up and not so great for the amp but if you drop the ohms, don't you have more power going to the speaker??? Is there really that much difference in sound?:dunno:

a 4ohm wil allow the amp to "give" it more power and in turn be "louder"
if the amp is bridged then the impedence will be halved. meaning a 4ohm speaker on a bridged (when the left and right channels are connected) amp will be a 2ohm load. two 4ohm speakers would be a 1ohm load if they are wired in pararell (sp)
so yes, a 4ohm would be fine

exactly what are you trying to do? replace a blown sub or just upgrade?? If the sub is still good and your upgrading the sub then you need to put the same ohm speaker back in. For instance if the factory sub is 8 ohm and you put a 4 ohm in your going to overdrive the factory amp. The same is true for the reverse if the factory sub is 4 ohm and you put an 8 ohm sub in it will play half as loud. I do this for a living and would love to help you as much as possible. www.MTSCT.com JD.
