Autocross this Sunday 5/11/03 @ Little Talladega Al .....1.35 mile course

Vipers and z06's going to what is called Little Talledaga (AL) 5/11/03 for the Atlanta SCCA autocross.

1.35 mile mini road course but will have cones to slow the speeds.

I have not gotten an e-mail turning Vipers down. Chris.....do you know anyone in the Atlanta club you could call and make sure we are ok to go with Vipers and zogs ?

I hate to miss this but I am in Hilton Head that day. Oh, and the next 6 days! This is one way I will not be the slowest of the Viper/Z06 bunch. I will leave that to..........

I specifically asked the SCCA people about this on the Atlanta Solo 2 e-mail list and several of them assured me that Vipers and Corvettes were fine.

I will be going down hwy. 59 from Tn. I sure will miss the caravan though.

Teddy if you want to Caravan, then you and Linh and I can hook up. There is a chance of rain in the forecast though, which we will be watching.

Problem is, we HAVE to run with a specific run group for this event. Chris and I will be in the afternoon session (Super Stock), whereas ASP runs in the morning. I don't mind going down there, but I probably won't be driving down early in the morning unless the weather looks perfectly clear. I don't want to risk driving down there, to have the event cancelled due to tornadoes

Good, My group (SM2) is also in the afternoon. ? Anybody in ASP could bump up to SM2 to change to the afternoon group. Is this a rain or shine event ? Will they call it off early based on forecast....or at least before we have to head that way ?

Tony,

I have some friends who will be going there the night before. They are in the first run groups. I plan on calling them before heading out, to get a weather report/cancellation status. PM me, and I'll give you my cell phone number so you can get the same info.

They usually run rain or shine, but if there is lightning and heavy winds (making it unsafe for course workers), they could cancel.

The current forecast says 40% chance of rain. If that gets significantly downgraded, I will probably drive over in the morning, so I could caravan with you, Teddy. But if it looks "iffy" I think I would prefer to wait and see and maybe leave Atlanta around 9:30 am. I hate driving my car at highway speeds in the rain.

If it is most likely going to rain, I will take my Z28 with lots of tread and run in SM (Run 4). If things look to be sunny, then I'll go early and take the Z06 for run Group 1. I also prefer not to drive the Z06 in the rain on the highway.

IMPORTANT NEWSFLASH... THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!!


From the Chairman
Unfortunately TGPR is posponed to a later date due to weather. The
recent storm activities have deposited large debris and also caused
flooding of half the track. While the water level is now down Mr
Upchurch said this morning that the track will not be ready even by
Monday due to worker shortage on the weekend and other cleanup issues.
He apologised for the bad news but we can understand his situation.
Please pass this on to anyone who might be thinking of coming to the
event. Thanks.
