Well tonight i finally got a chance to look under my viper, what i thought was a broken universal, was actually a broken axle shaft on the passenger side. Are the aftermarket ones stronger than stock? Also, can i replace just the one side with an aftermarket one without changing the good one?

These are referred to as half-shafts and they usually break at the universal joint (inner shaft)on the viper. Covettes commonly break at outer shaft (fixed on the hub). There are several aftermarket models available, take a look at the BTR web site. The normal cause is wheel hop and/or high hp with slicks. Replace them both unless you can find a single oem shaft and that should be easy since it is a common upgrade.
