Back hurting in the SRT-10

Well, I didn't have this in my Vettes, nor in my Gen 1 RT/10 nor in my Gen 2 GTS, but in my SRT-10, after driving the car for about an hour straight, my back starts to hurt. These seats just aren't as comfortable to me. Perhaps if I was mid 5'8 and could pull the seat forward and recline it a whole lot, it might be better, but since I need it all the way back just to fit in the car, it *****. I've driven my GTS to Vegas (a 5 hour drive or so) and would never consider that in this car, only because of the seats. Bah, I say!

Good news is my 20" tires came in (dang they look big!) and my Aldon shocks and Red Brembo Calipers! YAYAY.

Strong tag. I am about 6'1" and feel totally different about my posture. The seating position is strangely awkward in my SRT vs. my Gen I. I think the car feels taller to me and hence my back arch is elongated in the SRT. Also my knees won't rest at the same angle.

Just a hypothesis, but when your knees are above your ****, the cradle feel/fetal position affect is in play. I don't understand it, but my wife a psychologist, explains it pretty well.

I haven't driven it for any more than 2 hours at a time, but I think you are on to something. She says it is all in my head.

I've got the same problem manny. I thought that the seat lowering kit might help. It did in my GTS.

I'm 5'10" and feel the same. In addition my right ankle hurts like hell after only an hour or two of driving. Never had that in my RT/10.

I am 6'3 and no problems - I actually love the seats. I have 7000 miles on my car (6 months) so plenty of driving and plenty og long trips.

Though, I would wish the seats sat lower in the car, so I will soon get the lowering kit

Quit lying to us. We already know the seats hurt our backs. Sheeesh.

Yeah, I've found the same thing anytime I drive an SRT-10. Strange thing is that the seats in my SRT-4 (which are similar to the Viper's) don't hurt my back.

When I drive the car for over an hour, my whole body hurts, and that right ankle thing, I know what he's talking about there, they have the gas pedal in a place that will cripple you on a long drive, oh and that dead peddle, that's a joke. I had to take my left shoe off and place it under my right one. MY 15 year old son said the seats felt great to him. He can go to sleep in them.

Could there be other factors involved?

Truth is, I wouldn't change much about the seats, or the ergonomics of the interior. I think it was well thought out. Those pedals being so close together, I'd hate for my size 10.5 feet to be any bigger than they are.

Guys, isn't some of the difference the fact that the SRT doesn't have the adjustable lumbar support? It certainly helps make my GTS more comfortable.

Well...being 5'9" and a bit I guess I'm fortunate to find the seats rather comfortable and quite supportive (although a lumber support is sadly missed). Now the radiating heat felt throughout the cabin especially on your back and seat is another story and can become nearly unbearable for any extended cruises (read:10 miles plus lol). Seems an easy solution would be that the driver's seat be a six way adjustable or power to better accommodate different size drivers. Hey, that would be one problem fixed, yeah there's a few more but the damn car still kicks.

The seat doesn't effect me as much as the ride; the run-flat tires have to go. DC had the right idea but sacrificed the ride quality with them.

The seat lowering kit will help with the back ache. I installed the 2-inch in mine, recline the seats all way back and at 6'4" and 240, the seats are very comfortable and supportive, at the back area. The thigh support is a bit tight, though. Got to make sure everything is positioned just right before driving.

Shifting with size 13's was tough at first, so I bought a pair of driving shoes. They really help the feel and are quite a bit narrower that standard cross trainers.

I do wish they had installed a power driver's seat with adjustable lumber, sides, recline, height, etc.

After driving my SRT for several hours yesterday (including some spirited driving at 140 plus - on a track of course) I got home and switched to my RT/10 and found several things. First I kept pressing both the accelerator and brake simultaneously. Second, the accelerator position for my heel was much more comfortable. No ankle pain in the RT/10 at all. Also the missing lumbar support in the SRT was present in the RT/10. But, on the plus side, the RT/10 seat had way less lateral support (that is a plus on the SRT side of course).

Anyone tried to get GEN II seats in GEN III cars, yet? It works the other way round...

I have had the opposite experience. I know what back pain is since I have a partially herniated mid-thorasic disc. I have now 17,000 miles on my SRT. In May, I drove back to Iowa from Arizona. I drove 1,000 miles in one day from Arizona almost to Kansas and had no problems.

I would agree with doctorbob, in that I have had many miles logged in the SRT with no discomfort whatsoever. I was a little disappointed that there was not some sort of lumbar support adjustment, however that proved to be mostly moot. While I still wish it had some sort of adjustment, the factory seats have been just fine. Certainly more stiff than the relative "plush" of my GTS, but very well balanced and supportive. I prefer the SRT seats myself.

I can't see that, we drove 16,000km in 6-weeks, one day we drove 13hrs my wife and I had no problems at all. I would look for the problem.

Close the shades, turn down the lights, lock the door, and do 30 mins. of yoga every day. Early in the morning is best and of course don't tell anybody.
