Watching the barret Jackson auctions, these clowns are up there saying these 1935 apple hauling trucks are beautiful collectors and then they say vipers will never be collectable cars...JERKS! But they say a corvette ZR1 is a collectable..GIVE ME A BREAk!

In one statement they say anything with over 5000 units built will never be a collectable but then they say a car like a viper which only had at max apx 1000 units made on some years and considerably less most years isn't...LOSERS

Hen(***) with 1,500 miles going for $59,000. That guy stole that car and ran. The seller must be kicking himself. After that how can anyone command a high price on a Hen(***) or want to pay a high price for one. I wonder if his reputation has anything to do with it. Very unfortunate. I bet a stock Blue and White 96 would have gone high than that red one.

Thats not a deal. In general modded cars will not do as much as stock. Especially with low miles and that tuners reputation.

That Barret Jackson auction is such an attitude fest. If you can stomach it you see some cool cars. Also, Don Johnson shouldn't do any talking in public unless it's scripted beforehand.

Barrett-Jackson. I know when I was looking to sell my Superbirds, I may have done a bit better by going through that.

Saddest part of all these auctions is that they over-inflate the actual value of the older iron. We all know the auction mentality. Really good cars changes hands quietly. I have been around the older Mopar hobby for a long time and know many of the big players. These guys buy and sell cars long before anyone else knows they exist.

I think auction are often best for those that are not in the loop and need use that type of service.

As far as stupid Viper comments....we should be used to it by now. We all know that each year Chevy builds move vettes that Vipers have been built in total. I was never a 'vette guys, and probably never will be...they're just not my thing.

Just think of all the other "mis information " that is being spread on other cars at the auction,on the telecast. We here all know so much about Vipers, we can pick apart everything they say, but on a 63 Buick something or other...when they spout off info, I dont know if they are correct or not....Kinda sad....I think they shouldnt speak unless they know what they are talking about...
just my 2 cents

I'm no expert, but when that [******] came up..I told the wife it should bring around 90K. Boy was I off. I couldn't believe it. She asked why it was less than what I payed for my '01 and I didn't have an answer. I guess because it was 4 years older?

I don't know why all the ******s are coming up when I typed in the name of the guy who built the Venom 600.

The thing about auctions is that if you plan to bid for a car, you must do your homework yourself first. You do not listen to anything anybody tells you. You inspect and verify yourself (or someone you know well who's informed/knowledgable). You get documentation and verify the authenticity of the documentation if you can. Stories are just BS. If you don't know what you're looking at you shouldn't be buying it.

Which is dumb as ***** because then people can't discuss either positive or negative experiences with him, which would be useful to newbies and people in general trying to find out that sort of info - it's almost like it's protecting Hennesseyy.

You need to attend one of these big time auctions. I took my Dad to the RM auction in Monterey. The alcohol and testosterone are really flowing. Especially, when the rich guys start egging each other on, kind of like a bachelor party. Very surreal. So, I think the prices can be a bit misleading.

Regarding SpeedTV's Viper comments; What can they say? The cars were less than 10 years old. Nobody yet knows if the Viper will be a flash in the pan, like the Countach, or a truly desirable collectible. Will Mr. H's cars come to be as well respected as Yenkos? Who knows.

If you read Keith Martin's stuff in Sports Car Market, you'll see he is a fan of all cars, and strives to give a brutally honest evaluation. He's hardest on his own purchases, readily acknowledging they are based more on lust than logic.

Obviously, we owners are biased when it comes to Vipers. Heck, let's hope the prices continue to lag a bit longer so we can afford to stuff a few more into the garage.

I'm at the auction and am surprised at the inconsistency I've seen so far. A 63 split window vette sold for $34k and an apple truck for more. Some of the hotrods and unusual cars like a 61 Olds Starfire convertible are selling for big dollars.
Vipers have not historically done well at BJ but why would you want to buy a Viper at an auction anyway? There are so many around that you can drive and have checked out, the only way I'd buy at acuction is if it was a true bargain. They are not collector cars yet and the supply is adequate so don't be too disappointed. They practically gave away Bob Eaton's personal 92 a few years ago and that was more collectible than most.
Lot's of people like to brag about buying at this auction so the bids get silly and impact the collector car market but the true collectors will sit out the overpriced bidding.

The Speed coverage on the auctions isn't as bad as you think. They are not "experts" but know more than most commentators on tv and some really know their stuff like Keith Martin and Alan DeCadenet. There are so many different types of cars and the volume is overwhelming so nobody can know everything about all the marques and the individual cars themselves.
Hey, at least there is coverage and you can see for yourself what's happening if you can't be here.

I am watching the coverage tonite (fri) and at the start Mike Joy kinda "fell on his sword" and mentioned they are not experts, just enthusiasts (sp).
I am ok with that now....But some the the prices are silly.
Regarding the price for the Vipers yesterday....In one regard I am kinda happy they are low, so I will be able to get a GTS soon, but I feel for you all who need to sell yours now.
I am glad I didnt buy mine to make money, but because I have a passion for MOPARS, and cars in general. The 2 cars in my garage(1973 Plymouth Road Runner ((orig owner)) and 1994 RT/10), and the one sitting in my driveway(1963 VW Beetle), probably nearly equal the value of my little house.
My priorities are kinda messed up I suppose.

What will determine the price of the earlier Vipers like the 96 GTS is one thing and one thing only. More buyers than product - if that occurs the prices will go up from where ever they fall to between now and then.

Personally I would not buy a Viper with the expectation of making money on it, even in the distant future.

I would speculate, that when these cars are old enough to be restored, they will cost a ton to restore, properly. Will they sell for enough to recover the cost of such restoration - I doubt it. Just look at all the muscle cars out there that sell in the 20K to 40K range, that have had a proper restoration- I doubt any of the folks doing the restorations are making money at it. Now the guys buying these cars and re-selling them might be (Reggie Jackson).

Will Vipers ever be really collectable - chance are no.
However - life sometimes throws a curve ball so who knows.

Now this is all from a guy that owns two of these beasts - one for the street and one for the track. Both are driven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
