I've never come near the limits of my specialty insurance plans...and I've been using them for almost 20 years. If mileage became a problem, I'd switch.

I contacted Jessica (Agent) at the Delp company to see if they have a example of Chartis reinbursing a client of a Collector's car with a agreed value so we could all see if the client was satisfied. I will post it if I hear back.
I also gave her this address so they could see all the questions
being raised. Her adress is:

Unfortunately, I think the Barrett Jackson 2500 mile quasi limitation concerns me. I don't want to have to think about, am I getting close to my yearly limit or not, and in a State the size of Texas 2500 miles is just not enough. I also looked into American Collector Car insurance (offered through USAA), and they will not even let you get near a track, I mentioned only DE courses and I have no intention of wheel to wheel racing, but they said no-way.

This leaves Haggerty and Grundy as the other possible options, I'll let you guys know what they say :)

It has already been stated clearly in this thread that mileage limits are not an issue with this policy. They just don't want to cover your daily driver.

Actually it hasn't been that clearly stated.
When I called them today they specifically mentioned that figure.
I would hate to find out I'm not covered because I went 200 miles over the implied limit.
Or having to prove my destination on any specific trip if a claim is made.
Seems like a real gray area to me still.

I'm with Viper John on this, way too grey. I have 3 other daily drivers and will not use the Viper daily, but I don't like the idea of a mileage cap. I bought my first Viper (1st Hot Rod) last July, and have put almost 4k on it since then, this thing is sooo damn much fun, I can't imagine only driving it 2500 in all of 2011 :drive:

The mileage cap might be acceptable to those that store their cars over winter, but not here :)

Just got an email formal proposal from the BJ Insurance:
Insurance Carrier: Chartis Property Casualty Company

Total for both my cars annual premium $897.00.
Agreed value $110K on new ACR.
Agreed value 60K on '97 GTS.

Currently paying Grundy $2300.00 for same values.
Unbelievable difference.

Just thought I would check online price.
Said $356 a year for my two summer only cars.
Man that does seem too good to be true.
My luck I would get hit in another state on a once a year trip, and not be covered by some loop hole, not sure it's worth the risk and i'm a tightwad.

Jon,

That's a substantial savings indeed. That still leaves you with the 2.5k mileage limit, no? As you know, I'm pulling the trigger on that 09 vert and this interests me for sure. Seeing that we are both on LI, do you approach this annual limit on either of your cars? I guess the trade-off for the low mileage limit is the advantage of the agreed value.

Therein lies the dilemma..
If I had one car I would exceed the 2500 miles for sure. Just doing the math:
Lets say 10 good weather months a year? 250 miles a month.
So basically 60 miles a weekend or so...that's not much at all.
And with a new car like you have would be hard not to exceed that I think..at least the first year. What's one ride out east or upstate....

I got my new car in mid October and put 1000 miles on it when I put it to sleep mid December...how can you not want to drive a new car a lot?
I've got to give it some more thought.

Let's see if I can clear up a few things for those just joining in on this thread.

BJ Collector Car Ins. is NOT for daily drivers.

2500 miles per year,is a appox. guideline for the insured car(s) to be kept within that range. (they didn't even ask me the current mileage on my cars)

You can drive over that 2500 limit, IF the additional miles are to, and from, a car club organized or car show attached event. A general vacation of excessive miles for personal pleasure, probably wouldn't float with them.

If your primary car is in a shop for repairs, you can drive your BJ insured car to work for a few days, no problem,,,they said.

Its not for everyone,,,,,but good for most of us who own extra cars of classic or exotic models.

Like most companies, if you are a risk with multiple traffic tickets or charged accident claims,,,,they don't want you.

I'll quote myself,,,,as the 2500 mileage limit was previously discussed many times before. See above ^^^^^

Well stated. They don't want me. I had a fender bender 5 years ago in my truck, and my wife had a minor bender in her Escape a year ago, and they won't insure me. No tickets were issued in either event. My wife would not drive my Viper or Vette. They also stated the mileage is too high on each vehicle. I bought the 2002 GTS FE in October and it had 23,400 miles on it then and I have put 1000 on it in Florida. I bought the 2007 Z06 last month with 31,000 previous miles on it. Mileage too high? Go figure? Guess the rest of you guys are lucky. They must figure if you live in Florida you are automatically excluded due to driving more than the rest. Thank goodness for Travelers and their reasonable prices and no questions or BS.:2tu:

OK so I just got off the phone with them for the last time....:)
By the way, they are very nice on the phone and patient with questions.

Regarding the mileage question, as Zen stated above it is not a fixed in stone figure.
They understand that a Viper event could be ten states away and you could take a trip of 1000 miles.
Their point is that as a "collector" car on average you won't be putting that many miles on your car, if you were it really isn't a qualified special car.
Going to car events, car gatherings and shows are no problem.
You must have another daily driver insured for every adult driver in your family. Seems reasonable to me.

If the savings was a couple of hundred bucks a year I probably wouldn't leave Grundy.
But this is going to be 1500.00 a year for me and that's substantial.
I'm convinced.

Less than ONE THIRD of Grundy and don't even mention Hagerty what a joke.

Thanks DaytonProwler!

ViperJon,

By chance did any of your questions cover track events and/or driver education courses (Viper Days Events, Driving School)? The mileage thing might not be as much of an issue, but what if there is no car event on the schedule or in mind ..... and it's just time for a weekend cruise, or just a need to :drive: :drive:I want to be insured regardless of whether I'm heading to/from a "car event" ?

Slithr-
Rather than getting second hand info here, best to give them a call and ask them.
They are very friendly and can address any of your concerns. I am sure a weekend cruise is in no way violating their "terms" of use.
Certainly going to any Viper event is not a problem. I specifically asked them "what if I'm going to a Viper event 1000 miles away?"
Not a problem. Like all collectable car insurance they don't want you using to go to work every day or shopping at the mall etc, common sense.
That's what your daily driver is for.

Their number: 877-545-BJAC (877-545-2522).

BTW They are getting a LOT of VCA business of late as they mentioned.

Just switched both Vipers and my Hemi Challemger RTSE to BJ/Chartis from Wawaneesa and Hagerty respectively and saved over $600 a year with no deductable and same limits.
They asked for my wife and my daily driver declaration page from my current ins confirming our daily drivers.
So far very happy[1 day]

"Man that does seem too good to be true....." My point exactly! Just read all the fine print. I agree, it's a great deal but make sure you are going to fit "ALL" the criteria. Vipers are too expensive to fix "out of pocket" if you get bit!!! Other than that, a great deal for sure but just not for the miles I drive. Like I said earlier, I told her it was just a weekend toy not a daily driver and maybe a trip once or twice a year with 5K to 10K a year. She said it wouldn't work! Had she said it would work, beleive me, I would have changed. If anybody else here got another story from them, I'm all ears and I'll write a check that day!!! :D

I'm glad that the owners who have switched, and saved big dollars, are now satisfied with the move.

One of our local Prowler owners had a accident, his fault, and BJ/Chartis handled everything quickly and to everyone's satisfaction.

By all means, if anyone has a problem, please report it here and to your state's Department of Insurance.

Like stated before,,,its not for everyone, covering all possible circumstances, or available in all states.
