Battery and Spare Question

Last Sunday my 96 RT/10 would not idle, and starting was a problem, it would fire, idle down and quit (all with no foot on the gas)...after 3 attempts, I fired it and got on the gas (reminds me of poorly tuned carburated engines) and was able to keep it running...But then at the stop sign it wanted to stall again...After a ride it was fine... I know this is the original battery, and have read low batt can cause this idle problem. Do you all think replacing the battery is good preventative maintenance?? I called Dodge and could NOT believe the battery (special group 78) is only $89.95...I asked the guy, don't you mean $189.95???

Second Q, should I ever get a flat tire, will the huge boots on our snakes actually fit in the trunk, or will I have to put the
wheel on the pass seat to get home??? I have stock wheels and tires on my 96 RT/10.

Lastly, does anyone have the specs on how to align the headlights, or perhaps I should buy the service manual and I am sure its in there?? Not sure where I can get one of these.

thanks
TomR..

tomer,
Q1: Sounds like a good price from Dodge, I understand the Optima 7535 is a choice battery with long life.
Q2: Haven't tried a wheel/tire in the trunk; however, was told by a salesman to let your wife/girlfriend/any passenger, out and take the wheel/tire in the passenger seat.
Q3: I got this from here, the Viper Discussion Forum:

VIPER HEADLIGHT ADJUST

Solution: Tape Measure and flat wall (garage doors work) Up/Down Adjustment: Park ~ 20 ft. from a flat wall on a level surface. Measure height of center of headlights. Measure height of light beam on wall.Adjust low beam such that center of beam on wall is a couple of inches below center of headlight height.
Adjust high beam for level or slightly above level or as perferred. Left /Right Adjustment:
Repeat above except measure separation between headlights. Measure separation of projected beams on wall. I adjust my right headlight bias slightly to the right for "Deer Search Mode".
Remember: With only two adjustment screws per light, the up/down/left/right adjustments are iterative as one affects the other

1- Batteries cause a LOT of hard-2-diagnose grief. TOSS IT!
2- yes, it fots, so long as top is on car, and spare in on car!
3- Are you a VCA member? {For SHAME if not!} If so, you can buy one at cost....visit the "manuals" section off the main page. www.viperclub.org/manuals
If not, I will sell ya one for cost + $100 and include a VCA membership !!!

You can't adjust the high beams independantly from the low beams. If when you set the lows, the highs are off, you got some bad bulbs.
