Ummmmmmm what was the purpose of how the battery is encased in the srt-10.....?They must of gotta a real deal on those crappy bolts that need the special allen-style tool to remove the 5 four times as long bolts then necessary!Gnomesayin?:omg:

After I got the first one out by hand, I grabbed my cordless drill for the rest.

There is no special allen tool. They are regular torx head bolts and torx bits can be purchased at any hardware or auto parts store. Simply attach the bit (just like any other bit) to the end of a drill and it takes less the a minute to remove them all.

If you think this is bad, just ask the folks who own or have owned (like me) a Gen. I or II when it comes down to removing the battery.

Make sure when you re install them they are not cross threaded when you hit them with an impact drill or air tool because when they are in wrong getting them out is awful.

I've had the distinquished honor of having a Gen 1,2 and 3 viper and I can tell you that it is a whole lot easier, taking the torx head bolts out of the gen 3 battery then taking the rear wheel off of the 1st 2 generartions to get to that battery tray. I guess the gen 5 battery should be easier to get to than the previous generations.

Yes torx....im glad I live next to a guy who has more tools then Tim Tool Time Taylor.Cant have been more expensive to put on a regular bolt you can get a socket or crescent on.Oh well im very confident that nobody can ever steal my battery!

Dont bet on the Gen 5 battery access any easier. Yes, my Gen 2 took far more time to access the battery but they could of used a much simpler way just to remove the battery cover plate on the later gens as the original poster mentioned.

Installing an external battery cut-off switch makes life easier and safer.
