Battery replaced 2yrs ago. Car has not driven and is on a battery tender in heated garage since Sept 2018 It fired right up today and I let it run a few minutes to get the engine lubricated and turned it off for about 1/2 hr. Went to start it again and it fired right up. Parked it in the garage and turned it off. Had to move the car a little forward right away and now will not start. I seem to change the battery every 2-3 yrs. Is this normal? The car has been driven almost nothing the last 3-4 yrs so cant say how it would react if you were driving every driving season. I always have it on a trickle charge. I now have the battery back on the charger on recondition mode. I will up date on the results later when completed. Hope its a common problem and easy fix if it is NOT the battery. Any thoughts?

That's strange. So once you took it off the trickle charger, started it, shut it off, it wouldn't start again? Was the trickle charger hooked up when you started it the first time?

Put a trickle charger on mine. Same situation. My battery seems to last about 4 years. Get a strong battery. Are you sure it is the battery. Sometimes the alarm can be a pain in the first Gen cars. When you first start your car I always take it for a ride. charges up the battery and gets thins moving. Always change synthetic Mobil 1 oil in the Spring event if I put less that 400 miles upon the car. Have an old van that I'm going to put the used oil from th Viper in. Good enough for that car.

DJ's I do the same thing with the used oil from my Viper, I change it every 8 months along with all the other fluids, even though it sits on stands over the winter with no miles, I save all the fluids and use them in my every day ******. You are right about the alarms in the gen1s they can be a pain when battery gets low.

Took off the charger then started the car. Sorry I have been away and did not follow up on your post till now.
I have had the charger on since I first posted this problem. the charger now says battery is full. When I go to open the door the battery dies and cant close the door for a few minutes until It charges again. Yes this is very strange to me.

In my experience, once a standard flooded lead acid batteries is allowed to "die" or have the voltage fall too low, the longevity suffers compared to a battery that is kept fully charged.

Since Vipers can draw 30 milliamps normally with all systems off, it does not take long for a battery to be depleted of charge....typically, 3-4 weeks even in Vipers not using the alarm

For this reason, I have been replacing all such batteries with Interstate MTZ series AGM batteries...especially beneficial in cars with battery behind left rear wheel. Yes, I still use tenders, but these batteries generally gi twice as long as conventional batteries without recharge. 60+amp hrs last longer than 30-40 amp hr types.

Follow up.
The battery was over charged by a Ctek. there junk as far as im concerned. they have killed at least 6 of my batteries. live and learn.
Must be defective. It was making a clicking noise when in normal mode then Battery leakage.
Replaced battery and A OK. NO MORE Ctek.
