I have a new set of track-only pads (from Parts Rack, of course), that I'll be taking with me down to Viper Days. My question is, should I bed the pads in before the 800 mile drive to Willow Springs, put in street pads and make the drive, then re-swap the pads when I get there...

OR

drive down with the pads new-in-the-box, swap them out at Willow Springs, and bed them in before running ******* the track?

I drove my Viper to 13 events last year. Road America being the farthest. For each race I did my prep before I left Tampa.

What kind of pads did you get?

Thanks for the advice, everybody. It sounds like the concensus is to bed the pads in up here where I live (Seattle), drive to California on my regular street pads, then swap them out down there.

Definitley bed the pads BEFORE the track day, and allow to cool 24 hrs, or at least to ambient for 2 hour. Internally Cold.

However..... Your I-5 drive south is a good bedding place, when no traffic is present! You can drive BM#3 on the highway, and geet em nicely heat cycled, with sevearl stops from 30mph, cool-------50mph, cool-------75---cool. And allow to cool on the drive, and then overnight

Then enjoy your track day

If you do not bed the pads before track use, they will wear very quickly. Install them in the car beforehand, and run them against used rotors (not new rotors). Make about 5 stops from 70 mph with hard braking, let them cool and repeat for two or three more sets of 5. Then allow them to cool overnight before using them at the track. This works for me with the PFC's and they will last a whole season of 6 or 7 track events.
