Belanger Questions

I’m thinking about doing the Belanger headers/hi flow cat/exhaust system. (Sorry if my questions have been answered before/could not find the answer to these exact questions without weeding through all the other exhaust questions.)

I do not want an extra loud system, especially at idle. I would like a little more rumble with my cream puff engine though. If this setup is insanely loud (don't want to piss off the neighbors or attract any extra law enforcement attention, no more than being in a Viper in the 1st place) let me know, I'll stay stock.

1) Should I stick with the OEM cat to reduce the noise, and if so will that rob the power of the belanger system?

2) How much horsepower to the wheels do you think Belanger Headers/Bellanger hi flow cat/Belanger exhaust will add. All my 2001 RT currently has are the K&N drop in filters and the Roe aluminum smooth tubes.

3) How much $ in Labor do you thank replacing all 3 would cost?

Thanks a bunch

I have the 3" headers, hi flow cats and 3" exhaust all the way back. Its from Hennessey but he uses Belanger. Here is a cheesy little video of mine. You can get an idea of the sound/volume. Its loud but I love it. When I hear a stock car now they sound so.... quiet.

This is what Lou did for me years ago: he took a stock set of cats and modded them to have 3" inlets and 3" oulets. The system uses two 3" ID straight through mufflers on each side so the only thing between the exhaust valves and the tips is the stock cat media. I personally think it is ridiculously loud. Lou said that at the time it was the quietest system he ever built. Lesson is that Lou likes loud so take that into consideration (I looked into doing some sort of dual in/dual out non-direct muffler in the rear to try and quiet it down but just learned to live with it.

I have that exact setup. Nice at idle, angry at WOT. I love it. I often get complements on how good it sounds. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it also seems to get louder and throatier as time goes by. It is loud when you start it and one of my neighbors dislikes me because of it. But I can live with that. :D

Thanks!

Anyone know what the horsepower gain will be with Belanger headers/hi flow cats/Belanger exhaust?

My stock 2002 GTS did around 400rwhp
My 2001 GTS with smooth tubes, high flow filters, T&D rockers, Belanger headers, high flow CATs and catback yielded 447rwhp

I would get a 5 into 1 header instead. I had bellanger headers before, and it lacked peak power. With that said, currently I have the American Racing 5 into 1 stepped headers, and I like them a whole lot better..

How much horsepower with the American Racing full sytem?

Also, how much did the full system cost you?

I never dynoed my car with just the headers, but with JM stage 3 ported heads ( milled for higher compression) and cam. My car put down 591rwhp and 568 TQ. On the dynojet over at DC Performance. DC Performance also did all my motor work to..

For me it was more important where the powerband was. The Bellangers have good midrange power, but falls flat on the top end. My new headers were $2100 bucks..
