I wonder if people who object to Vipers ever consider that compared to, say, the number of Camrys on the road, Vipers have put far less total pollution into the air...

Take 2002s, for instance. 1622 Vipers produced, and (based on 15000 miles/year, far more than I suspect any Viper gets driven) about 22,870 tons of CO2 in the air each year as a result. In 2002, 434,145 Camrys were sold in the US alone, which put out a total 3.3 million tons of CO2 per year. Food for thought.

I don't see what point you're making. 22,870 tons of CO2 divided by 1,622 Vipers equals 14 tons of CO2 for each Viper. Doing the same math for your Camry example shows 7.6 tons of CO2.

The people who object to Vipers are considering that if all the Viper owners drive Camrys we (the Viper owners) would be twice as "green". Sure, saving 11,400 tons of CO2 is a drop in the bucket compared to 3.3 million, but what they are thinking is they made the sacrifice and we should too.

Or maybe they're just jealous.

Sorry guys, but Mother Nature kicks all of our vehicles' asses.
Volcanoes release 130 - 230 MILLION TONS of CO2 into the atmosphere, ANNUALLY.

Yep, our beloved hi-powered sports cars don't cause global warming. It's good ole Mother Nature. But don't tell the Democrats that.

Well...we certainly don't negate anything, but we're not completely innocent either.

In perspective, we're (Viper drivers) more like a grain of sand.

I alternate between the Viper and the outrageously loud 350Z for the daily work drive. Both get attention but the Viper draws more of a crowd. I work at a post-secondary school, and the students love it. They're always asking me to give 'em a ride. :)

I spend more time riding my bicycle than driving the Viper. It's fun because you can taunt Prius drivers for destroying the environment with their fuel consuming machines.

+1 :2tu:

I love it when people say that Honda is the most environmentally friendly vehicle in the U.S. I tell them that, no, my bicycle is probably better. It gets slightly over 217 mpg of water on my commute back and forth to work. Also, it does not pollute the environment...unless I've had burritos for dinner the previous night. :D

Now thats funny,

I have owned my since Oct 08 and my employees dont know and only a few close friends who have alot more money than me know about my car!!!

People who make smart remarks are small minded and have no idea what it means to work hard for making your dreams come true, my is a 15 year dream, when Viper made the 2008 600HP, I said its now or never and I'm glad I did it looking at what is happening with the car industry.

I can handle the jealousy out in the general public when I drive my Viper. I can handle the fact that most of my neighbors hate me because I own one. But I will never, EVER let anyone at work know what kind of car I own ever again. It has caused way too many problems.

I am not a bragger. I am a pretty humble guy. In fact I'm about the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. But, I remember when I first got a Viper I told a few of the guys at work. About 6 months later this lady starting working in the same place as me who had just left a management job at Chrysler. She was very pleasant to me. Said hi to me everyday. Then one day she just turned kind of like a nasty *****. I asked someone what was with her and they said she found out you own a Viper. She said she worked for years at Chrysler in a lot higher position than I had and couldn't afford one, so how does this guy rate.

Then I moved to another building with the same company and only told this one guy who was also really into cars. Word got around that I owned one. No problems really with that, but I quit and started working for another company. I did not want anyone to know I owned a Viper. But, one of the guys I used to work with also started working for this same company. He asked me in front of a bunch of co-workers if I still owned the Viper. I could see by the look on a lot of people's faces they were pretty disgusted. Like how does this guy rate. So as a result some of those people started saying negative things about me. It hurt me on the job.

Then 2 years ago I was one of the final candidates for a job I was interviewing for. A guy who wasn't really part of the interview was driving me from one building to another for the final interview. We were making small talk, and he mentioned he drag raced. I said I did too. He asked what kind of car I drove. I reluctantly told him it was a Viper. He was very cool about it. But, when he droped me off at the final interview place he mentioned that I own a Viper to the guy who would be my bosses boss. I could tell by the look on his face that he was the type who didn't want someone below him having nicer things than him. Well, I think that blew the interview right there as I was the front runner for the job and they ended up not hiring me.

Well, whenever I start my next job I will NEVER let anyone at work know what kind of car I drive on the outside or anything else about my personal life. Most people are just too jealous. It *****, but that's the way life is.

Welcome to the world of Viper. You will soon learn of Viper Tax as well.

Very true. I have owned a Viper for 10 years now. Seen it all. I had some hi flow cats put on at a Mom and Pop shop since it is probably illegal and the big shops won't do it. Anyways, I told the guy they must go on in one direction only since I didn't want to assume and have him put them on backwards. Well the A-hole puts an arrow going the other direction on the cats just to F with me. Didn't see that til I got home. Also didn't see the fact that the guy left about a 4" seem unwelded. Tend to think he did it on purpose. Took it back to get it rewelded and again he left about a 1" seem unwelded. I never went back again. Fixed it on my own.

Just wondering whether it is an age thing ? I have never encountered the jealousy angle; but, I am over 50 and not handsome. Nothing for anyone to be jealous of, here, I think.

The folks at work know that I am a car enthusiast and bought and use the car to DRVE, not show off. As far as I know, there is no jealousy, only thumbs up. I don't drive it to work, though. Seems like a waste. (Like living with a super model sex addict and just making her mow the lawn.)

You've encountered some real **** people in your life. I wouldn't have thought that an ex Chrysler worker would be upset that you own a vehicle that they made. I could see it if they found out that you owned an expensive import but not a "made in the USA" Viper.

And to live in Michigan and own an American icon like a Viper and to get such negative responses from people in a state where "made in the U.S.A." is their lifeblood is rather shallow of them.

I'm proud to tell my co-workers that I own a Viper. Actually, all I had to do was mention it to one or two people and the word got around on its own. I'm known as the guy who might show up for work driving a Viper one day and riding a Trek the next. Both are fun means to get around in their own way. :)

I have not encountered any jealousy among my peers. The year I bought my Viper I had averaged slightly over 80 hours per week at my old job through April to save enough to buy it. I worked hard for it and I'm proud to leave the garage door open when I do yard work to show it off. The neighbors seem to like it.

I waited 10 years to buy a Viper and I bought it because I have always wanted one but never had the finances to do it with while providing a decent life for a family of four and the expenses of owning my own business. Let people think what they will. I work hard and like to have a little fun and it was my turn! I deserved it! Everyone has an outlet and this is mine!!!! :2tu:

I couldn't have said it any better brother! AMEN!

I generally don't get much negative attention from driving my Viper, until I hook up my sled team of baby seals to pull me along the interstate, whilst I smoke illegal Cuban cigars with my underage Russian bride riding shotgun.
I thought I was the only one! :2tu:

Same thing happened to me at a job. *****. Now, I don't tell anyone unless they see me at the track. I also now work in the "Field" again so I don't tell people ****.

HAHA this thread is too funny.

I couldn't care less what some **** thinks or says at work. I had a boss at work make a comment the other about in front of several other people including my Commanding Officer, and I lost it, and let him have it. The people I work with know how hard I worked to own my Viper and they know I have been positioning myself to buy one for the last 10 years. 99% of them were extremely happy for me when I got it.

My CO just started laughing at the guy and gave me a High Five LOL.

Some of my old Vette buddies made comments when I bought it, and made comments like "Well we don't own Vipers." It bothered me at first but then realized it was harmless.

Anyways WHO CARES! And yes I drive mine to Church all the time LOL.

I had my Priest Bless the car LOL and then we went for a ride! Told him at the next church picnic I should give rides to raise money for the parish:D:2tu::2tu:

Yes I can't drive my Viper to work because I have to hear that I make way to much money, which spawns discussions on how to cap my income. But good news ahead for all of us, capitalism is on its way out and socialism is coming so everyone will be able to own vipers right. So drive it with pride that you have worked hard for the toys you have.

You guys that can't drive your Vipers to work ... quit, what kind of losers do you work with anyway?

You guys that get all the negative comments ... move cause there's obviously some problems that people are jealous and wish you not to do as well as you have.

Today I drove 25mi. to a gas station and home again (park it full of gas). I heard "Nice car" 4 times and had a passenger in an oncoming vehicle waving so violently I thought the driver was gonna get smacked.

That said, there was a total criminal ass that came over to my house while I was sorking and smashed the window out of my 440 duster resto-mod.

Other than guys telling me that when I'm not looking they're 'feeling up my Viper' and girls telling me that they want to LICK my car all over' I only had one dumb broad telling me that I was "being ridiculous and I should buy something practical." I looked at her Quad cab NEW, $50,000 pickup and asked her if she meant I should buy a monster 6 person vehicle with cargo capabilities like her?

Some people are completely ********. Just point out the obvious to them. People freak out when I tell them that my 900bhp car gets better mileage than their pickups and SUVs.

It's OK though, I tell nearly all of them very nicely so that they don't feel "berated"

I never have any problems at work, and if any of my coworkers ever has a problem with my car, I guess I will just have to fire them. Good to be the boss.

I've been driving my daughter to school for years in my various Vipers. Kids actually know her as the "Viper Girl". As my only child I'm proud that she's more of a car person than most of the boys she knows. Most of her girl friends don't know the difference between a tire and a steering wheel:rolaugh:

As far as my coworkers are concerned- F'em.

I am a 1 man company though, so I'm actually the CEO, shipping manager, accountant, marketing manager, janitor and chief whipping boy :D With all those titles it's no wonder I can afford a Viper.

My co-workers talk about it more than I do. People that know what I do always make comments like "he's on the take".

I think that it should be a motivating factor to others that if they can be in a close to the same position as you then why cant they own a Viper also, or something to their like. Why be jealous over what car someone drives, there is too much other stuff to worry about in this world than what someone else drives. Life is too short.

You have a good atitude, like most Viper owners. But the world is full of all kinds. Evil, nasty, jealous, envious and even ones that appreciate just seeing a Viper (eye candy).

LOL and usually it's the people that spend all their money on crack or don't care about cars that "dislike" Vipers. So when someone makes an ignorant comment about my car I just imagine that as soon as they go out of sight they'll be "crankin' up" and then I only worry about them smashing my window trying to steal my Viper so they can afford some more crack. It's too bad that it's not more publicized how hard a viper is to steal so that they wouldn't try. No one's ever bothered my car so far :)

Well I only drive mine where I can keep an eye on it. I don't take it to work because I can't watch it and jealous people are out there. I would be go ape#$(% if someone keyed it.
I drive my GT500 to work and worry a bit about it.

As for my best line for jealous people....."Might as well enjoy the labor of your work cause you can't take it with you when you die" I think people understand that a little better.

I think the main determining factor in these discussions is where you are. People treat and respect others differently in different locals.

This is a great thread and I just want to add that if you are smart enough and or lucky enough (wanted a Viper since they were a concept car and now I own one) to own the most fun for your money car on the planet then don't be shy about it. Take it everywhere and let the Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and Range Rover driving people drool. I drive the wifes daughter to school lots and she and her friends love it, So does everyone at my work. Awesome cars and awesome people that own them by the looks of this thread.
