Best fitting Nav radio with the most features for 2003 - 2010 Vipers?

Other than the RB1, which I do have already, what is the best fitting Nav radio that has the "most" features?

I would like to avoid modifying the dash if at all possible. That is why I went with the RB1 a few years ago.

I just picked up a 2014 Wrangler though with the upgraded MyGig radio and Nav system and that is probably one of the best radios I have had in ANY of my cars over the years. It has so many features it's hard to believe it's in a jeep! I loaded 680 songs into this thing and I swear the sound quality is better than when played off of any CD. The automatic link to my phone and using the radio to adjust the phone call speaker volume is super nice.

Now I want something with the automatic Bluetooth phone system and hard drive for all the songs. Anyone set something up similar to this in their car?

My 08 Nitro also has a MyGig and as you mention it is very nice. I wanted something similar for the snake so I installed a double-din Kenwood in my Viper but you will need a hacksaw, other "fine adjustment" tools and modified brackets to make it fit :omg: Once I put the modified carbon fiber (fake) dash panel from Double-D mods back over the required modifications the nightmares subsided :D

Yeah, I think you're pretty hard pressed to find a nice drop in replacement due to Chrysler's silly 1.5 DIN stock radios. The market on them is pretty slim at best. You can go to a single DIN flip up style unit pretty easy, but the screen can get in the way of the air vents and I generally found the one in my car annoying (bought it with one installed) because it had to be open to do pretty much anything.

Looks like there might be more 1.5 DINs out there than I thought after a quick Google search, but they may carry a little premium due to the odd size.

I think you guys should not do anything for a couple months while a little something we have been working on is in production. :)

http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/668639-MyGig-Radio-Retrofits-All-SRT-10-s

At the moment, this is still something that needs to be installed here.... for now.

However, the entire concept right now is being changed. We are producing our own integration modules, that have allowed us to make a number of changes. We are going to be able to sell modified MyGigs which can be installed without a separate module and all of the wiring changes, as we will be making the changes to the head unit itself via an internal integration module modification. This will allow us to sell this in a kit form with simple adapter harnesses, and rental "jigs" for the physical changes. Basically, adapters will change OE connector types over to MyGig style, have an available Reverse input wire, and THATS IT- everything else is automatic. The Auto-Dim Rear Mirror/U-Connect Mic *or* Mic Only will be Plug and Play add-ons, as will the Reverse Camera Kit, again, totally plug and play. Both powered by the MyGig itself through internal modifications.

Side benefits will include:

-Full illumination function Restored as OE
-Clock Function Restored
-Splash Screen Function [RER automatic Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep per VIN, RHR Dodge indicator is being located; default Chrysler]
-Specific VIN Function on Request
-Automatic Rear Entertainment Activation [for someone doing a Resto-Mod who wished to connect the secondary module/screen system]
-Automatic Rear Camera Activation in Reverse [if you install one]
-Automatic Sirius Travel Link Activation [RHR Only, if subscribed... Yes, live doplar Weather and all that jazz!]

The short of this is that we have every single feature activated, and functional if equipped. Pricing should remain roughly the same, though we must supply the MyGigs in this case.

The production module is about 60 days out at this time, after which this will all be doable easily.

Can I get on an alert list, so that when this modified MyGig head unit is available for sale I can know about it? I'm getting ready to buy a Viper, and my first choice was to have an AV installer do the modification to install a double din head unit. Would this modified MyGig system be on par with that? I don't necessarily need a large display, but satellite radio and bluetooth is a must. Nav is icing on the cake, but I could always use my smart phone for that (which bring the next task--is there a mount kit for phones in a Viper?).

Hey Guys,

I will be posting availability and start scheduling Jig rentals once we can get all of the loose ends ******* in production.

LovesSuperCars- Yes, the MyGig has all of the same features and then some, with far less hacking and a more OE feel and interface.

Dan,
Can you tell a newb like me what components come with you package, and cost? I was going to hire a local AV guy to install a new double dine head unit, speakers, and backup camera. I would like to have specifics of your package, so I don't go throwing an excess amount of money at an upgrade that your package satisfies.

This system when Dan has it ready will be the way to go hands downon our Vipers. I have the system in the new Jeep and it is AWESOME!!! Way beyond the RB1 nav system I have in the Viper now.

Okay, sounds to me that I should at least wait until the system Dan has comes out and I can compare that to what the market offers. Even if I do decide to go with Dan's system, should I still upgrade the speakers, sub, and amp? Also, can you please point me to the specs of Dan's system? I just need to ensure I have bluetooth, satellite radio, iPod/MP3 inputs, and backup camera inputs. Thank you.

At the moment, nothing is set in stone. Here is what I expect:

Package will come in a standard form, and include:

-Modified MyGig for Viper application w/internal integration module upgrade
-Dash Harness Adapter w/Reverse Input Wire [to be connected *if* you have a Rear Camera or Mirror Upgrade]
-Antenna Adapter
-GPS & Sirius Antennas w/mounting Brackets [RER: Two Separate Receivers]
-GPS/Sirius Dual Antenna w/mounting Bracket [RHR: Single Combo Receiver]
-Standard uConnect Microphone
-'03-'05: MyGig-to-Liftgate & Liftgate-to-Antenna Jumper Harnesses
-'06-'10: MyGig-to-OE Sirius FAKRA Jumper [liftgate FAKRA already in place this year range]
-Dash Modification Jig [Rental + Core]
-Replacement Faceplate [Your core due back] Note: Initial shipments will be an initial cut plate, but likely will not be "filled and finished". We will be doing cut batches, and offer this additional option on special request at a later date. There is too much minimal fitment change risk to final finish panels without the car in hand. Not to mention a multitude of customer finishes in different cars. Plates should be test fit and tweaked in the actual car before finishing.
-Instructions

Optional upgrades will include:

1. Reverse Camera, Plug and play w/hole saw, wiring harness, and instructions.

2. Auto-Dimming uConnect Dual-Microphone Mirror w/LED's. Will include unfinished wiring harness, connectors, and instructions. Will require minimal final assembly and soldering retrofit of Alarm LED.

3. MyGig Faceplate Color Modifications. Standard Green, optional White or Blue.

At this time, all features of the MyGigs are activated. The Clock Function may or may not be included at the time of initial release, but will be a very simple update in the future when the software patch is done [pull and ship back for a day if desired] The difference between the RER and RHR is that the RHR, while looking identical, is a newer version made by a different manufacturer. Functionally near identical, the RHR includes Sirius Travel Link, Bluetooth Audio Streaming, and Satellite Radio Rewind, as well as a few minor user interface changes. The RHR also has an additional Micro USB input on the rear, as well as using a single "dual antenna" rather than two separate antennas such as the RER uses for GPS/Sirius. Otherwise, they are virtually identical.

Initial installations will look like this:

From that description, that's EXACTLY what I'm looking for. It's worth it to me to wait the two month you say it will take to be able to buy this product. Will I need to buy anything else? Also, and I asked this earlier but do not believe I saw a response, should I replace the stock speakers and sub, and get an amp? I'm a middle aged guy, so I don't need to play my music annoyingly loud, lol.

This setup will work with the stock amp and speakers, and sound a good bit better than the OE system. Personally, I prefer to leave the OE setup alone, and instead add a separate subwoofer to the trunk or footwell that can easily be removed. No sense in going crazy on the other speakers, it is just not possible to make a Viper sound "great" easily with those speaker locations, and especially with an open top... the process is futile. The OE system however has no problem with mids and highs, so get a proper source of bass and call it a day.

Dan, I already have a CF dash panel set up. This is a 2din unit right? Seems like on an old post, someone was making a 2din CF dash piece.

No, it is not the same size as 2-Din. It is a typical OEM radio built to whatever oddball size they decided on, not standardized.

Has anyone used this before? Link to radio? I like this as a better option than the MYgig cause I don't want to cut into my dash to make the mygig fit. Has anyone tried this?

Hmm, that's interesting. Kinda tempting as a drop in. The MyGig is nice no doubt, what with all the features and bigger screen, but that looks like it might be a good option for someone looking for a drop in setup. I wish I could remember what the guy in my local club put in his. May have been something like the radio in that link. Sound quality would probably be my main concern with an off-brand like that.

Edit: Okay, it bugged me enough that I just looked it up. I believe this is the other drop in radio that has been referenced in the past. Here's the thread I was thinking about that discussed the wiring issue and a review http://forums.viperclub.org/threads...zed-Replacement-Review?highlight=radio+wiring. Sounds like another off-brand radio, but seems to have decent results for a (mostly) drop in.

Cheap Chinese knock-off radio....

Anyone want to take bets on what kind of a problem those are going to turn out to be?

I don't doubt they're low quality, but for someone looking for a drop-in that fits the silly factory form factor it might not be the worst deal. I'm also not a fan of flip ups though, which would provide larger screen size and better quality brands with a single DIN conversion. Yanked one out of my car when I got it because it was just more of a hassle since the screen needed to be open to do almost anything.

I think the MyGig stuff you're working on is awesome, but I don't think I care enough to spend that much money on it since I wouldn't have the rest of the system to back it up for high quality sound (kinda like a $1000 watch with a $100 suit). I have a plain single DIN setup that does USB input, bluetooth streaming and phone calls, and Pandora that has ticked most of my boxes. I use my phone for nav on the rare occasions I need it. Putting a MyGig in my old Dart would be kind of cool though. Have a lot more room to work with in that car, lol.

To each their own, but IMO, the audio portion of the system is probably the furthest down the list of things I really care about when thinking about the MyGig. If it didnt even play music and simply had DVD audio and Phone audio, it would STILL be worth it. That said, the most important aspect of something like the MyGig is the fact that it is integrated- to itself. Meaning, you do not need separate clumsy devices to do different functions. When driving, you should be focused on driving... not fiddling with a phone navigation while turning down the audio on the head unit wired to an iPod while trying to make a call over BlueTooth. When they are all one unit, navigation directions are automatically given over muted audio, phone and nav are on the same screen via bluetooth, audio is automatically paused and started, DVD can be be treated like Audio and automatically pause, etc. It comes down to being streamlined, uncluttered, and complete.

That said, sure, someone who wants a couple feature is not going to be looking at such a system, and things can always be done much cheaper if you are willing to make sacrifices. As everyone knows, I am not a big fan of the "S" word.
