Chevron's additive isn't the only quality aftermarket detergent technology available. STP's product line uses some very robust chemistry as well.

In any case, try to plan to use these products just before you change your oil. A fair amount of what you put into the gas tank will find it's way into the oil, and it's not the same as blowby. The additives are big and heavy and hit the cylinder wall upon entry into the combustion chamber, and are then saved by the oil film from the high heat of combustion. Next stroke, they're wiped into the oil. Since the additives are heavy, they will not boil off like gasoline does. If you plan your use just before an oil change, then at the end of the tank, whatever got into the oil will be drained out as well.
