EDD = Every Day Driving

Folks, I've got to go out and buy a full set of new plugs. Does anybody feel strongly about one product or another? ANything out there that is really worth tracking down?

2000 GTS, 5 psi Roe, cat-backs etc.

Many thanks

I bought Bosch Platinums and was told that the Champion plugs at Partsrack are the way to go. Something about the Platinum plugs having a short life. I heard that all the Comp Coupe guys are running Champions.

Avoid platinum plugs on a SC application. They cause detonation. And you will blow your motor.

Ngk4554 (r5671a-8) are awesome, inexpensive SC plugs.

I am in the process of doing plugs and wires and the Wizard HIGHLY advised me to go with STOCK replacements for both. He was very adamant about it.

I just bought a set of E3 Spark Plugs with Diamondfire technology. I haven't run them yet but am curious to see if there are any advantages. Has anyone else run these on their Viper?

Many thanks to all. Much appreciated. I posted torque guides on seperate thread.

Special thanks to Joe for the IMPORTANT NOTE TO AVOID platnum tips!

Also, I had received a set of new plugs with the Roe Blower, but after reading Sean's notes about use, wasn't sure I should use them. Sean writes:

"Consider installing the one step cooler heat range sprk plugs that are enclosed. The gap should be 0.032". You will find that these plugs are best for racing and full throttle use (you generally use a colder plug for higher performance applications). For idle and cruising with little full throttle use (or short full bursts) the stock spark plugs will provide smoother driveability. Too hot of a spark plug ca lead to pinging / pre ignition."

(Roe plugs are Bosch Plug Number 7527, FR8DC +Super Plus, thanks to Steve)

Since I wanted fresh plugs to monitor the rig this year and was more the "cruise" kind of guy, well I needed to know what plugs to buy. Some have suggested that the Roe plugs are just fine for EDD. Any thoughts?

Re: !

Last Fall, I bought 20 OE Champions (or was it 30?) at various local sources having 'no questions asked' return policies.

Before I gapped the plugs, I test fitted them and used the 10 that best aligned with the gap pointing towards the center of the combustion chamber, rather than having the gap pointing towards the combustion chamber wall, which would force the spark to go around the ground electrode.

Then returned the others...

No harm done, the plugs and boxes returned were clean and 'as new', and I got to select the best plugs.

Re: !

Manual for my 01 recommends Champion RC 12 LYC, .035 in. gap.

Specs for the 1992 Viper that started it all are exactly the same.

So, in 15 years spark plug technology hasn't come up with anything better? I certainly trust the opinions of Jon B., Chuck B. and Chuck T. (wizard). They all say OEM Champion. I guess some things in life are constant, which is refreshing.

Re: !

This spark plug post is really funny given my visit to the local Dodge dealer yesterday concerning my rough running 5.9 Dodge Dakota (throwing #3 injector misfire code on my code reader). The "tech" noticed that I had recently replaced the OEM Champions with Autolite plugs and stated "Dodge vehicles only run right on Champions...I need to replace those Autolites with the correct Champion plugs...we can do this for $79.99...plus you need new 02 sensors @ $249.00 each." Yea...right at 54k miles. I put a new cap/rotor/wires on and it's running like new (I couldn't believe the condition of the cap/rotor when I took them off). I did replace the Viper plugs with platnum about 10K miles ago. My first impressions were that it did run "differently". Hard to describe. Since I didn't replace wires, I thought maybe I'm just over analyzing the situation and moved on. Seeing as I just rolled over 20K on original wires, I'm going to get AB's wires and go back to OEM plugs soon.
