Best spark plugs for our Vipers?

I am curious for future reference, what are the best plugs to have for our Vipers? What is the proper spacing/gapping for the plugs?
I know that the platinum ones are out of the question since they need more juice to work properly. I also see that Champion plugs "fire through" the ceramic part of the plug. I have used NGK for almost all our cars and boats, and they do good for me. So when I need to change the plugs on the Viper, which ones should i get? Thanks in advance.

If your running a constant high power application, a colder than stock plug is usually selected to keep internal temperatures within limits. If not, the stock Champion RC12LYC are fine for most stock applications. These plugs were designed with a long projected tip or nose for lean burn emissions. The stock plugs will keep themselves clean for long term usage. If your car runs adequately with them, continue to use them.

Gap them at .035"

A agree w/ Doug.....The Champion has a much longer depth into the cylinder than the aftermarket Pl plugs I have seen. This tends to keep them clean, lean, and detonation-free. And the heat range is perfect, 'unless' the car has a carbonized or other detonation problem.

A Champion engineer once told me that single Platinum Plugs on coil-pack cars are probably a waste, due to the 'fire thru' on one (yes, only one side!) of the coil-pack fired motor. And a reason that Viper plugs probably ought to be replaced in 5000 miles!

The coilpacks on the Viper can knock you on your backside. The spark is very high-energy, (and can "bleed" easily, esp out of old wires, and heat-damaged boots and wires. This may even be exacerbated by the metal heat shield around the plugs themselves.)

Gap? .035 is OE..... You could even try .038 - .040 for a "fast-burn" scenario...there is a LOT of voltage on tap!

Thanks a lot for the useful info as always. I went out to the Pep Boys and got 50 plugs for future use. I also think that I'll gap them at 0.038 to try it. Thank you again Jon B for the guidance.

I know....it stinks to have them there, but I can drive them fast there! There is an F60 in the works though........

I found the stock plugs to be borderline on detonation, especially if you have headers and exhaust modifications. The engine will sometimes detonate above 4000 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear under full throttle, and it may be caused by our 91 octane fuel. I could not find a step colder plug in the Champion product but did find a NGK that is perfect in my opinion. It is the FR5-1 (7252). It has the same extension and is a shade colder, which for me stopped the detonation. I think that NGK makes the best plug that I have found. Chrylser probably uses Champions because they buy them in large quantities and get a rather sizeable price break.
