I will be having a Roe S/C installed next month. My 96 GTS has the original Michelens on it from 96. I heard the Kuhmos have the best traction, but dont last long and chip up your paint with rocks. Does Kuhmo make a all around street tire better than the Pilots? Will the new Michelin Pilots be a better tire than what I have? Is there another brand out there which will hook better than the Pilots? I already have 443 RWHP and 482 pounds of torque with 3.55 gears, I need to get the power to the ground...Thanks...00PROWLER...

What you have heard is Correct in regards to the Kumhos. I do not believe they make a All season tire that is any good for the Viper Wheels.
Pilot sport cups are SAID to give better traction than the C1s, but might kick up rocks etc also.

I had Kumhos on last summer(rear only), and they grip like hell. Since I didn't have them on the front also, I can't say how they handle at high speeds etc. Someone else might be able to help out there.

For me the Pilot Sport C1s have been the best for me so far, as I don't want to destroy my paint, and I like to make HIGH speed runs, which would require matching tires front/back to be safe.
Also, I can't remember what the speed rating is on the Kumhos. The Pilot Sport tires are GREAT at high speeds!

Running Kumhos F/R here and they seem to be pretty good as far as handling, although I don't have much to base a comparison on, having not run the Michelins. IMO, they are just a must to keep the rear from breaking loose on gear shifts (I have around 440 RWHP and 3.55s) as my car was dangerous with old Michelins on the rear.
I think they stick pretty well on the track too. If you go with them, put 3M tape on exposed painted surfaces.

Khumos are a MUST for high HP on the streets , otherwise, what the use of the HP?

Get some clear film to protect your paint and your all set.

Just like the Michs in my opinion. They CAN last about 5k miles. Just be careful in the rain and stay under 40mph...

Man, I hate getting caught in the rain with my Kumhos! :(
I ran 'em F/R at Viperdays and thought they were pretty good on the track, but again, this was my first high-speed track event, so not much to compare with...

The V700 is an autocross tire......made for turning corners. I got 7000 miles on my first set of rears, probably have almost that on this set. I tried running Kumhos on the front for a while...to much gravel being thrown....since then I have run the Michelins front and V700's rear. Much better traction than Michelins, straight line and corners.

Kuhmo's, I will never buy anything else again! Yeah, you will get gravel rash, so use protection! I just put Michelins back on to 'use' them up after running Kuhmo's for the summer. Weather's a few degrees lower these last few days here (cooler tire temps, and blower motor making more lovin the cooler air) but I was getting a little 3rd gear wheel-spin tail-slides off the throttle if I really booted it, never got that with the Kuhmos!

Are the Khumos Z rated for some top speed runs? I love the top end thrill...Thanks...00PROWLER

They're actually W rated, which equates to a sustained 168 mph. You should be fine.

Why the extra rock throwing with the Kumhos? Is it the tread?

It's the treadwear! I believe it's rated at 50. That's compared to 220 or so for the pilot sports!

They stick!

kumhos are the best chioce, they toss alot of road sand into the well, only noticable under slow driving mainly. they stick to the ground like drag radials. i can keep my car stored in the garage for 3 months, pull it out to blow the carbon, and just rolling down the street 20 feet from pulling it out the garage i am already throwing sand in the wheel wells, and the tires are still ice cold. NOW THATS A STICKY TIRE.

How do the kumhos compare to the Mich. pilot cup tire as far as handling and traction? Has anybody tried both?

listen, if it ain't broke don't try to fix it! i bought 4 brand new kuhmos for the viper for 700 from parts rack the mich..... are probubly more than double this, how do you justify this extra money, save it on the side for mods that really are noticable like a roe blower, with the money you save on the kuhmos for very comparable performance, after a few sets of rubber, which we all know how often they need to be changed, you can save a small fortune and be on your way to that monster blower setup so many of us love. For the record i am already half the way there on tire savings alone!LOL

Re: Best Tire For Street Use With Roe S/C

Where do you put the 3M tape on the car? Does it go just on the fender lip?
