With all this talk about Bikes and Vipers....why don't the tuners and S/C owners, and TT owners, and all others interested..... get a track date for bikes and Snakes. It seems to be quite a popular subject, and has everyones interest....Come on, we have a lot of heavy hitters out there with LOTS of HP!!! Sounds like fun. What do ya think? 1/4 mile, round track, 1 mile runs??? Gerald, are you listening??? :D

OMG where do you do one mile runs? rent an airport, or retired air force base(actually i think there is one of those here in northern MI people here have used)? sure would be fun to hear and watch! All the S/C and TT horsepower & turbo bikes. I'd love to see it.

YOu serious 1/4 mile guys will take them... You're average rider will be hitting 11's and 10's. Your serious bikers will be hitting high 9's..

Would anyone mind if I post on the 'busa board for some Florida riders with BONE STOCK Hayabusas vs our Vipers?

Will there be a class for 1998 GTS's with DLM supercharger and 100lbs of stereo equipment in the back and never dragged at the strip before ?

If so, I'll be in it.
If not, I don't like to loose..

Gerald you are a good street driver which will be good for the Street Tire shoot-out! this is no drag slicks just pilots.

If street bikes are only running low 10's high 9's, what are all of those bikes I always see at the track running anywhere from high 6's to low 8's and how are they generally modified to run that much quicker than their stock counterparts.

Phil,

You have had the great fortune to be at the track to see a 6 second motorcycle. Not many of them on the planet. Your typical 8 second bike is a radical race only machine with wheelie bar, drag slick and no onboard starter to name a few items.

Typical street bikes run from the 12's to the mid 10's and a handfull of special bikes can run quicker with a decent rider. Keep in mind that it doesn't cost as much to modify a bike..or for that matter to purchase one of the quicker ones right from the showroom. Kind of gets back to the Mustang theory.

I enjoy fast vehicles and ride quick bikes often. My brother owns a "Busa" and I ride it more than he does. A very quick machine..........but not your average bike.

Tom

On a side note.........very few...read again...very few dragstrips will allow a car and a motorcycle to race in side-by-side competition due to ever increasing insurance regulations. The chances of putting on an event like the original poster is wishing for is near impossible.

I own a 2001 Hayabusa and have had it to the track once. It is bone stock, and I ran a 10.02 at 142mph. Wanted to get to the 9's. I am putting a turbo on it this winter. It now has around 155hp and am expecting 380hp with the turbo. I also have a 2000 R/T 10. They both are fun for different reasons. I have some really good busa pics with a ******* them also.

I've seen a stock Busa run consistent 9.88s all evening long at Portland International Raceway.
Beware what you ask for...

Some people over here claim kills versus some old junk bikes and then have a tendency to generalize and claim victory over all bikes.

I do know that when I'm on my R1 and race against my own Viper (driven by my wife) its like the Viper is standing still. Ok - the R1 has 170HP and the Viper only minor mods. The mods to the Viper would have to be brutal though. For a modded Viper to have a chance the contest should be limited to :
- straight lines, the longer the better.
- speeds +120mph

i have a 2000 busa and have been a "rider limited" 9.7@148. i have some minor mods and it should go 50's or 40's with a better rider.
i have tried to set up a race at the track with a car several times and even on track rental days, they will not allow it. it would be really fun though!
also, i hear all of these stories about supra's and some vipers or vette's beating busas on the highway, and i would love to see it in person (actually i would love to drive one of those cars, must be amazing). i have been 185 on the busa and got scared, i could not imagine that kind of top end power in a car.

Actually I would feel MUCH safer in a Viper going 185, then a busa with 2 wheels, either way you are flying!

So it looks like a no go for any bike vs Viper races (on a Track) from what I read.

Best, Dave :D
