Well, this is really a pathetic post, but how could somthing this simple be such a pain???

Well, the hood is so light that when I try to get a nice pull on a 16" Dura Block, the hood slides on the sawhorses rather than the sanding block on the primer.

I'm about a camel hair away from putting the hood back on the trapeze which really is great for sanding etc. because you can put the hood in the open position to get the sides very nicely.

But seriously, what is the trick??? I used plastic to cover the bottom of the hood and that stuff is quite slippery on the bath towels on the saw horses. I even put a concrete block (ugh!) on a towell in the center of the hood and that still wasn't enough to keep it put.

what else can go wrong?

This is all second hand information (and it does seem to weigh more than 17 lbs) but I believe it was a very early SVS hood.

I think the 17 lbs may have been a "stripped" weight with no "gel" coat.

By the time you have it all blocked and primed and latches put on it, it definitely is more than 17.

It's hard to judge the weight by picking it up because it is so large. I can tell you the outer skin is .052" and inner is .108" due to a outer surfacing of something that is cosmetically appealing when the hood is open (could this be the gel coat???)

But seriously, how do you hold down such a critter to sand?

Anchor the saw horses to the floor - throw a few 50lb sacks of sand(plastic bags) on them with a little 3m spray adhesive. Or set the hood down on the grass in your yard.
