I read through the threads on this, but want some opinions.
When I got my car back tonight after it had been sitting for three months, the air was blowing for a few minutes and then stopped. Nothing would come out on any setting. The motor was pretty hot, so I assumed it had locked up.
I just pulled the motor out and it smells a little funny inside the housing, but it spins completely free with no issues.
I pulled the resistor and sure enough, the tab has come un-soldered.
Here are my two questions:
1. I thought it would still work on the highest setting even if the tab had come un-soldered, but it wouldn't work on any setting. Does this mean the resistor is toast even if I solder it back? Gonna give it a shot anyway.
2. The tech said the A/C needs recharged, but his machine is messed up. I would think this wouldn't have any effect on the blower system though. It just wouldn't be able to blow cold air. Am I wrong here? Could the A/C not being charged have caused this issue?

1. The motor is probably bad, and caused your resistor to pop. The fuse may be blown as well. I would not advise repairing the resistor, just replace the resistor and motor as a pair. I have seen bad motors pop new resistors, and repaired resistors end up being failed shortly after internally.

2. Nothing to do with it.

Just replaced mine. Same issue. I changed out the motor and all is good.

Well, I soldered the strap back on my resistor and put everything back together. Nothing. Didn't even turn on for a second and then blow. Working with VPA on a new motor and resistor now.
As far as the motor, has anyone had one just burn up or go bad, but not lock up?
Like I said earlier, it smells a little funny, but it spins freely with no problem.

Yep, I have... that's why I posted to replace both. A resistor that is cooked with a free spinning motor is a dead giveaway.
