Bluetooth technology in Gen 2 Viper

Stereo crapped out in my Stealth TT last week, so ... went to stereo shop and bought 200w Mosfet power, sat, ipod, Bluetooth CD player, MP3, WMA and aux input for $400! The stereo comes with the ipod dock cable ($39?) and controlls the ipod with the deck, same thing for both sat radios. Once installed I'm buying one for my 01 GTS.

I can't stand weaving down the highway at night while trying to get my stupid cell phone out of my pocket, open, focus on which button I need to push. Dialing is dangerous while driving and it's obvious why using a cell phone with your hands is illegal in most Prov. and states.

My cousin bought a new Ram pickup and was ranting about the Bluetooth and telling the truck to phone out, dial, answer, etc. = all while his phone was in his pocket. After my 500mi. weekend drive I easily got talked into spending an extra $70 to get Bluetooth with my stereo. Using this stereo in my Viper will mean throwing out the amplifier (saving weight), but this unit has a lot more power than my Alpine + amp so it'll sound better anyway.

The Pioneer Premier DEH=P790BT has a JOY stick controller that I'm hoping will make stereo tuning a lot easier than most of my other stereos that have tons of tiny buttons and some need to be held down for 5-20 sec. to enter other settings, bla blah blah. 7 EQ settings, larger screen so that it's easier to see the options. I'm looking forward to suing this phone slave. Push the phone button and tell it to phone home, it mutes the sound levels and does all the button work so that I can concentrate on the driving.

I'm expecting great things from this reasonably priced stereo.

I have the u-connect option in my 07 SRT Jeep and love it. It was simple to link my cell phone to u-connect blue tooth. The two link automatically when you get close to the car. Very nice product. This is one great product that MOPAR missed the after market. With the build in DVD/GPS and blue tooth is real really nice.

U-connect in the SuperBee as well. Unfortunately, my Treo 700W is a piece of junk and has to be prompted to connect to the car about 90% of the time.

another alternative to stock is the Pioneer Avic... has bluetooth, backup cam as well with a ton of cool features...

Some of the Garmin Nav systems have Bluetooth built in. I was thinking about getting one just for that reason, and I could use it in all of my cars including the Viper.

I've been looking into this too.

The Clarion VRX575USB is the option I've been looking at. I'm refinishing the interior in my RT in black and am adding MGW stuff where I think it looks good. This head unit is black with brushed aluminum accents, which would match everything else I'm doing.

The thing I like most is that it's got touch-screen iPod controls. Most units that are single-DIN and have iPod controls...well, you can only see 2-3 songs at a time when you're browsing because of the limited screen real estate. This makes for very easy viewing/browsing via large display so you don't have to divert your eyes TOO far from the road. And you can get one for about $500!

Most of the units I've seen with all the bells and whistles look just that; like they have lots of bells and whistles. Obnoxious-colored lights, chrome-looking knobs, etc. and other things that scream "STEAL ME!" Since I have a Gen. I (and no way of securing the car in my absence), I'd like something that looks as subtle as possible for the handful of times it's parked unattended. I think this fits the bill perfectly AND has a detachable faceplate.

LOL...well, the Viper is definitely a 'two-handed driver' it'd be nice to have two hands to drive it with.

I use a Motorola H700 headset to connect to my RazrV8. I use it all the time in the car or not. I thought about installing BT technology in my daily drivers...but prefer this headset.

Maybe I'm a loner on this one fellas, but my car is too loud to even hear the phone ring, much less be able to hold a conversation while shifting through 2nd and 3rd gears. The same can be said for the stereo. I will admit the screen looks cool and adds to the "Chicks Dig It" factor, but get real... I could think of at least three things I'd rather put that bluetooh and fancy stereo/gps money towards.

I drive the car for long drives (up to 4,000mi. per trip sometimes. I do prefer to stop for sleeping, eating and gas, but I'll be damned if I'm going to stop to use the phone. My business needs acess to me in case of n emergency, hence the phone. Most places 'hands free' is requit=red by law. I'm sure I'll get enough tickets driving (got a warning for speeding Wed.) and don't need any for a phone.

It's nice that you can add high tech when you need it, instead of paying $2,000 (?) added to the car. Don't need it? -Don't add it.

Some prefer to wash/wax their Viper on weekends, rather than actually driving it. Others prefer bench racing, than actual racing. It's their car, so let them do what they want to do with it.

Agreed ! Do what you want with your own car. You earned the money and spent it wisely on a Viper.

But, hey, if you start talking about this kind of stuff in public with regards to your Viper; then, you have exposed your softer side to "the Viper guys."

Kind of like being on a Rugby forum and opening a discussion about moisturizers or mousse. It's kind of a don't ask, don't tell situation.

I totally understand that RTTTTed was just pointing us to a good option for filling in long distance boredom and do appreciate the info.

No need to justify you have to get bluetooth in your Viper, we all understand. Next time you want to share something to everyone on this message board, think about AZTVR's advice. With 550+ post in less than a year, you don't seem to think before you post. Or, you simply just have too much time in your hands. As you can see from this thread, most didn't really welcome your softer side.

Don't misunderstand my posts, and probably some of the others' posts. With >500 posts, RTTTTed is one of the "guys", and everyone has their individual personalities. When we get off of discussions directly related to the hard-core high performanceness of the Viper, there is a strict no-slack policy that must be enforced. Someone has to counterbalance the discussion with appropriate comments in order to neutralize the overall thread. It's required so that no one looking in thinks we are getting soft. It's not like the VA site where it get's a little out of hand.

I personally appreciate the variety of posts and the interchange that results.

I disapprove as well. It's because of "what it isn't" that made me purchase a Viper. If the raw racing ,bare-bones nature of the Viper makes you bored and you have to revert to bling...you may want to rethink why you're driving a Viper. I mean...the roar of the V10, growl of the exhaust, torque planting your ass in your seat, keeping the rear end from breaking lose...my goodness man you're missing out by watching that LCD screen. But hey to each their own so enjoy!

Not at all, and everyone has the right to post whatever they want. This board seems to be turning like the other forums at times, because of all the non-sense post like, "look at what I did this weekend...", "look at my soon to be new head unit"..., etc.

If you're going to post some "bling", try to limit it to wheels/tires and such, where it affects the overall appearance/performance of the car. Now, if somebody ask for options other than the crappy factory head unit, then that's the time to show off what you have.

I'm putting in a chrome mesh grill, some spinners, altezza tail lights and a gold chain-link steering wheel... HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW!!!

Seriously though, I don't see anything wrong with a replacement head-unit that adds some functionality. Some folks might like the flip-up LCD because it comes on a head unit that offers GPS. Sure, it's not a performance enhancing feature, but if you do a lot of 'going to places you haven't been before' in your Viper, it could be helpful. It doesn't take away from "what the Viper is because of what it isn't"...unless you bought one of a handful of ACRs, your car came with a radio too..and a radio is a radio, regardless of what features it offers.
