Bogging during aggressive launch

Perhaps it's the warmer weather and sticky tires (aftermarket) but when I try to launch the car semi-aggressively (around 2 to 3,000 rpms), the car bogs big time (rpm drops to about 1 or so). Of course when I dump the clutch at 3,500+ I am sitting there doing a burnout. Is this normal or is there something wrong? I just recently changed the plugs/wires and there is no check engine light.

GTSnake - yes, I am definitly considering it. I am just shocked how weak the car feels off the line. I honestly think it's the darn sticky tires! With these Pirelli's I can hear little rocks thrown by the tire.

I launch at 4000 with drag radials and around 4800 on et streets.


nothing wrong with your car, you just need to figure out the rpm to launch at and this will vary from track to track or street to street, but you will have an idea of what your car likes. I first started out slipping the clutch, which works but not the best for the clutch or for 60 ft times, so since you have some decent tires just figure out what rpm you can dump it and hope she holds together.

John - thank you for the reply. I presume for a stock car with sticky tires, this probably means something greater than 3,500RPM.

You may want to try launching at your 3000 rpm's, however, as the car comes off the line back down on the throttle and sort of feed it progressively, that will stop the bog.

Issac - I may need to take up on your offer. I did a few runs and makes a difference to launcy at 3k rpm vs at 2k and giving gas.

Figuring out the answer to your situation is called becoming a fast driver. You just have to play around and figure out what works with your set-up given the conditions.

Good advice. I too am having trouble launching after changing gears from 3.55's = easy to 3.07's = much harder.

All of the above will help. My 2 cents, practice, experiment and practice some more.

I found my 3:33's best all round.The 3:55's are too touchy to get a fast launch,but from a roll 20 to 120 roll against stock 3:07's ....GOODBYE MTHRFKR.

If you can afford it... go with one of these DIY TT systems coming out, both Heff and Paolo have very nice set ups coming out, and Paolo I must say is doing an exellent job as well(intercooler pics on another post) And my buddies car with the first Heff DIY system 10.87 @ 130 totally stock... not bad huh?
