Boost Creep Question

When Joe Donovan was tuning my car last fall, I almost hit 12# boost on an 8# pulley. My car is a 94, stock exhaust manifolds, stock rockers, 8# Roe, Water/****. If I put on headers and T&D's to increase engine efficiency, will I notice less creep? If I leave the car the way it is, are their any long term reliability issues? The car is running great, just wondering if headers, rockers would be worth the investment.

The reason for boost is the backup of airflow trying to get out of the engine. Anything you do to help the exhaust escape will make a difference. Headers, rockers and no cats will make a difference. It would be better to do the mods with a Greg Good head setup. On my 99, I have the 8 lbs pulley and with headers, Mopar roller rockers (have a set for sale too :D ) and no cats, my car will see 10 lbs on the gauge on cold days.

Answer per Paolo:

Yes. If you get head work done the answer is yes. The boost pressure is a measurement of the restriction of forced induction air being pumped through the motor.

With Polishing and Porting the heads and bigger intake and exhaust valves the same volume of air will show up as a lower boost pressure."

With that said Keep the Gen I and buy a Gen II.

Given that the boost 'measured' is directly indicative of a restriction to airflow, the airflow could be restricted on either the intake or exhaust side or both. Improving the airflow past the point of restriction will lower the boost pressure. Adding headers will only improve the situation if the stock exhaust headers are the main restriction to airflow.

If the restriction is on the exhaust side, it would stand to reason that the cylinder is seeing the extra pressure. If it is on the intake side, then it seems like the cylinder is not seeing the additional pressure because it is stacking up in the intake plenum and is therefore relatively harmless. Anyone have thoughts on this matter?

I also have significant boost creep and I have a full exhaust, but no RRs.

My supercharger runs with the 6.5lb pulley under 10psi boost and produces 601hp. No cats, 1 3/4 headers, 1.7 rockers etc.

As long as your viper runs smooth stay that way.
