Brakeman 3\'s

I saw on a recent post that Brakeman 3's will eat up the stock rotors if used on the street. I have Brakeman 3's on my GTS as I use the car at the track about once a month, am I to expect my rotors to get damaged if I drive the car on the street in between track days? I know the race pads squeek during street use as the pad doesn't heat up enough, but I never heard that they could damage the rotors. I really don't want to have to change out the pads after every event. Now I'm beginning to stress!

yep..Brakeman#3 will crucify rotors ON THE TRACK!!! but the braking is 2nd to none!...on the street you should be fine but they do need to get warm to work well...watch out.

Dont believe it. They eat your rotors on TRACK......but they stop great, and are actually rotor-friendly vs some other brands on track......

You'll be fine! Just be sure to always burnish/bed new BM pads and allow to completely cool before any track event.

Ie dont burnish them on lap 1 and 2 !!!!

Hey Jonathan, Hows it going man? Good to hook up with you at Viperdays.

Anyway, what JonB says is crucial here. Bed the brakes properly and it will help a ton. I had this problem with Hawk Blues on the stock rotors. Put a new set of Stoptech rotors on at Viperdays/bwillow, and a new set of Hawk pads. Took them out on the highway and bedded them properly (!) on Saturday evening. Ran them all day sunday and you can't even tell they've been used. Gonna run them at thunderhill this weekend, I'll report anything signficant.

10 60 mph to 5 mph runs
4 80 mph to 5 mph runs
4 100 mph to 5 mph runs

One after another with NO breaks in between, your brakes will be smoking and you will experience some "green fade" drive the car 3-4 miles with no braking to cool down and you're bedded, no drink needed

Re: Brakeman 3\'s

With regards to Socal Rebell's bedding procedure, I kindly propose the following amendment to his system............Are you
frigging nutzzzzz??? Okay, Ron, this is brakes we are bedding, not...............whoops, sorry for digressing.

Try this method , as it is what we have been using for 4-5 years.

4-5 runs , braking from 60-80mph. Firm pedal pressure , easing up as the car is almost stopped. Follow with at least a 1/2 mile , to a mile of cool down on the highway. After the last bedding procedure, drive for a longer distance ( I like 3-4 miles ) to really cool the brakes back down. You should be fine after this, and my Brakeman's lasted all through the Mid -Ohio Viper Days, and part of the event at Mid America Motorplex.I do have brake ducting and a Stoptech Big Brake system, so wear is also attributed to those two systems.

We always recommend washing/cleaning the rotors, prior to putting on different pads also --- to get off the residue from other pads.

PS - Sorry Ron, I know you are a sensitive guy, so if I came down on you too hard, just buy me a glass of Cabernet at VOI-7 and I will tell you how sorry I am. Two glasses and I will apologize even more, ha!

Re: Brakeman 3\'s

Herr Pemberton, I will not be attending VOI7 but I will take that glass of wine at TWS during the Viperdays National Finals.

This is the method Stoptech INSISTED on, when I bought the 4 wheel kit from you there was an "outdated" set of bed in instructions and due to not bedding agressive enough I ruined the front rotors right out the gate, Stoptech was nice enough to give me a new set of rotors NO CHARGE (you gotta love those guys) and the above bed in instructions. Once I bedded them agressivly I had no problems and my rotors lasted about 25 track days with the Brakeman 3 pads.

Re: Brakeman 3\'s

I have had great luck with my StopTechs, and I used the same method as I described, but I was describing the best method for stock rotors or 1 piece StopTechs. I understand their thoughts, and they are a real class operation, so I defer to your wisdom on the Big Brake System. It is not necessary on the stock rotors, though. I do know that folks have ruined alot of the new rotors because they did not wash off the film that covers them. It is some new , enviromentally friendly stuff, that all new rotors are supposed to be covered with --- but it doesn't work well with pads. StopTech, to their credit, is making sure folks and Dealers know to wash their rotors, as we have talked to alot of individuals who have other systems and they were never warned, hence they have had problems.

Sorry , I won't be at Finals this year as I kinda owe my gorgeous wife a vacation , and that is the time we need to use for a little break. I will tip a glass of Red in your honor , though. Hope you do well, and Viper Days Finals are something that must be experienced in the life of a Snakecharmer. You will have a marvelous time.

TWENTY FIVE TRACK DAYS HOLY MOLY!!!!!

Please can anyone else provide feedback on this pad bedding proceedure?? Can it possiblt be true? Or have we had toooooo much red wine? (jk)

I am lucky to get 3 track days on a set of ANY pads. Although my rotors seem to have held up very well through 2 sets of BM 3 and 2 sets of OEM pads I would LOVE to see 25 track days!

More feedback please!!!

I get 25 track days out of my ROTORS not my pads. Brakeman 3 pads usually last me 4-7 track days depending on the track.
