1) If you have not purchased an Extended Service Contract, DO IT.

2) If you had purchased a new 2001 Bentley or Rolls, they have already had 2 urgent recalls for FIRE HAZARDS.

3) Welocme to the VCA .......

congrats!!
my 2001 should up with the drivers door not shutting properly.

as far as the oil change it at 200 miles and i use mobil 1 and mobil 1 filter every 1500 miles ( but it can go 3000)

follow the engine break-in to the letter.
if you dont have the engine break-in formula do it a search it has been posted many times.
and welcome

All these minor irritations are just added character to the car.

At least my 2001 doesn't leak - although it has only sat through rain, not driven in it.

The hard top rattles (I think I can fix that), the fuel pump check valve was shot when it arrived (17 miles), the glove box lock and emergency brake both rattle. And I thought it was going to be smooth sailing from my old car. Of course it took me over 1 1/2 years to make the '94 water tight - so I feel some progress was made.

I still wouldn't want any other car.

I feel like putting your words in my signature "2) If you had purchased a new 2001 Bentley or Rolls, they have already had 2 urgent recalls for FIRE HAZARDS."

It kills me whenever I read the "I expect more from a $*** car." You will see this on every board even the Maxima board!

First of all..Mobil 1 is the factory fill and is recommended by Dodge. As far as the other issues you mention, they are all probably normal. Being hnadbuilt, Vipers have these types of little things. The radio surround on my 2000 GTS also has marks you describe. I would doubt that a new replacement part would be any different.

My driver's window does the same thing. If it bothers me enough, I'll fix it. Take your car back too the dealer and they'll take care of it. My new BMW M3 had warped rotors that needed to be replaced within 200 miles and a crankshaft sensor recall within 500 miles.

I would have thought paying.... for a BMW... would have....

I have had a few new vipers and really didn't have any cosmetic issues and I guarantee if those are problems and not characteristics of the car building process and I doubt they are, take it to the dealer, I have never had better service from a dealer than dodge. I never had any marks on my cars interior pieces but I did have a window issue similar to yours and dodge took care of it, and if they fix it that means it was not right the first time.

I've never understood the common mis-perception that a handbuilt car is somehow supposed to be "perfect". I think that a machine built car should be more error free, provided that the machinery is built to spec and QC checked. A robot is always more consistent than a human, so any error can be easily corrected. A human, on the other hand can be great one day and be a klutz the next. Anyways, just dropping by from the other side to say "Hi". I don't own a Viper, but admire the car greatly.

Take care,

I would check with the dealer to be SURE that he changed the oil in this car (or ANY OTHER 2001 Viper!!!) before delivery to you. If there are no written records of the factiry fill Mobil 1 being changed as noted above, I would recommend that you have the dealer change it NOW along with the filter. High class dealers (such as Woodhouse) are doing this with 2001's upon arrival as I understand it. The oil change mentioned above is just a starter...would follow the UPDATED "easy break-in" schedule and change oil at 200 miles, and again at 1000 miles. UYou have a GREAT RIDE...Enjoy it...and Happy Holidays.
