The plastic gas pedal fell off of my 2000 GTS so I figured no big deal to get a new one.

Guess what!

The pedal is part of the PEDAL ASSEMBLY which costs $1200 and requires a major operation to install.

Even though it will be covered under warranty, who wants to have their "new" car torn apart for a gas pedal.

O Brother...

Naturally, I put it back... and it fell off within the hour.

The pin is knurled and wore out the hold in the plastic pedal.

Further, the way the pin is knurled is somewhat strange.

The knurling is pushed thru a pedal web so that web is now "loose" on the smooth portion of the pin.

Although I can't remember where the knurl ends up when installed, it is a very, very, very bad design.

A solution would be to bore the pedal and arm and install some kind of shoulder bolt.

I still think it should not be an issue to replace a car's pedals. This is standard practice for any nice car with worn pedals.

I have had the same problem, with the gas petal, the clutch petal, and the throttle cable pulling out. These pieces have caused I have found out to be little plastic grommets, and small thin clips. Not very sturdy especially if you drive the car hard.
