Buying new wheels, what to do about tire pressure sensors?

I've bought a new set of wheels through VPoA and a set of pressure sensors to go with them without really thinking about it ("I need valve stems!").

Eventually I'm planning on getting a set of track tires for my current wheels and swapping out wheels when I take my car to the track. I realize now that since presumably only one set of sensors can be paired with the car, that means it's pointless to have 2 sets of sensors, correct? Or is there some way to get both to pair so that no matter which of the two sets of wheels I'm running, I won't have any errors and I'll be warned of low pressure?

Help -- I'm clueless about these sensors and how they work.

Ah, thanks! I did some searching before making this thread but apparently not using the correct keywords.

No problem. For ease of install, if you can get your old codes from the original sensors or get the old sensors out, it is much easier to just stick with the original codes and make a new duplicate set. But, if you plan to program the new sensors into the car, WRITE THE CODES AND CORNERS DOWN. You will kick yourself later if you do not! Also unles they are OEM wheels, make sure they are programmed before you put them in the wheels or you will not be able to program them with the tires on, they end up too far in for the activation magnet most of the time.

In the opening post of this thread, Viper007Bond asked a great question that has not been directly answered to date. Said question was:

" I realize now that since presumably only one set of sensors can be paired with the car, that means it's pointless to have 2 sets of sensors, correct?"

My answer to that question is YES YOU CAN program TWO sets of wheels equipped with OEM Tire Pressure Sensors to one Gen III or IV Viper using a DRB III and a magnet.

I currently have two sets of wheels programmed to our 03. When I swap sets, all is well.

There are better sysems/solutions out there as Dan has outlined in numerous threads.

You need to be careful with this. We have seen that extended times away from the second set of wheels can trigger a sensor error thinking the battery is dead. The system requires that ALL programmed wheels register over a certain time span, or it considers the sensor as having a dead battery. Some people have gotten around this for some time as they technically have both sets of wheels near the car in the garage, but sooner or later it will bite you in the rear end.
