While I was at Murray's Discount Auto getting my discount oil and free filter (see other post) I picked up a set of Bell floor mat clips. They are easy to install and they really do help with the infamous factory floor map creep. They're from Bell Automotive Products, Model No. 00096. They're well made and seem to hold the driver's mat securely. They'll work for me for daily driving and then I'll put in my Snake Oyl logo mats when I want to show off! :2tu:

Yes, they will work with aftermarket mats. I'm on the road with business travel until next weekend, so a pic is not possible until then. You might be able to find a picture of them on the web.

Basically each of the clips have two long thin "needles" that hook down into your floor carpet. Then there is a small clothespin type clip (with sharp teeth) that is attached on the top and it clamps down on the back of your mat. These things really grip and keep the mat from sliding forward.

I bought a grommet kit from Home Depot (it'll put a metal-lined "hole" in just about anything... usually for tarps). I put one in my carpet mat, and put a zip tie through the hole to make a 3" loop. I hook the loop around the seat adjustment lever. Presto, problem solved.

I've got enough grommets to punch about 50 mats.

Slaughterj (or anyone else who may need it) - If you want, I can ship the kit to you, and you can mail it back to me when you are done. BTW, I'll most likely be in Durham starting in August... how's the Viper showing there?

Thanks for the offer, first I'll see what those clips look like.

What's your plan for being in Durham, permanent? The Raleigh-Durham area has its share of Vipers, a lot of which are roadcourse-oriented.

Finally got back this weekend and was able to shoot a couple of quick shots to illustrate the clips:

Here's a single clip -- you can see how the rear prongs hook under the base carpet and how the other clip holds the mat. The clips are very strong and they have sharp teeth to grip the mat.

Here are both clips. Note the one on the right is not clamped on as deeply (no particular reason).

These clips have really helped prevent the bunching up of my OEM mats under the brake and clutch. They're not perfect (still have to check things every now and then) but certainly worth the couple of bucks they cost.

Hey, thanks for the pics! How do the clips connect to the floor?

See the top picture. The rear wire prongs poke down through the base carpet. They look a little vertical in the picture because they are located at the elevation change in the floor right before the seat. They dig in solid and really hold -- and don't do any damage to anything.

How much was the grommet kit at Home Depot? That is a great idea! My daily driver has grommets in the floor mats, and a little hook mounted under the seat. I know there are bolt holes near the front of the seat. I'd be interested to see if you can buy just the swiveling hooks that are in my Z, and installing in the bolt holes in the Viper. Always hated them moving mats - even my nice NorCal VCA mats move.

Where can I get these? Do any auto supply stores out in the Seattle area carry them?

Murray's Discount Auto and Auto Zone carry the Bell clips. I'm not sure about Seattle, I would suggest calling your local auto stores and asking them. The Brand name and model number are in the first post on this thread.

Hisserman, thanks for the post; I bought the Bell clips a few days ago and they work great.

Out of just being sick of the mat sliding forward I put 3 clips on the driver's side; left, right, and center.

Problem solved.

Thanks for the info. Picked these up over the weekend at Murray's while visiting Chicago and - Voila - no more sliding floor mats! Best $1.99 mod I've done.

Hisserman, You rock for posting this. I bought the clips for $2. Unfortunately, I didn't realize there are two in a pack so I should have bought 2 packs. Anyways, they worked great! No more slipping mats.

Sorry, to just saw this...

The grommet kit was around $15, I think. Let me know if you want to borrow mine... I have enough to do 50!

I just tried the following based on a hybrid of the 2 designs posted above. Using a small binder clip and an 8" cable tie, I've got a similar result with the flexibility of removing the mats easily for cleaning.

Check out the binder clips at:
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/skuset.asp?PageType=2&SkuSetID=831628&bcFlag=True&bcSCatId=1&bcSCatName=Office+Supplies&bcCatId=21&bcCatName=Rubberbands%2C+Clips+%26+Tacks&bcClassId=10100&bcClassName=Binder+Clips

I'll post in a few days if they work as expected.

Nice of you to offer - I'll probably just buy the kit locally. We would spend more than the cost of the product in shipping both ways.
